  • Fitting extra gauges in a moulded pillar pod housing.

Been catching up on some reading and came across an article in 4WD Action [193] about fitting a couple of extra gauges using a moulded pillar mount.
I love gauges and found a terrific looking boost gauge from ............ egauges.com. Brand is ISSPRO: EV Marine-White Part No: R6871. 0 to 25 PSI.
They have hundreds of different gauges and the hardware and kits to fit them.
The fit and finish of the pod looked really good and it seemed like a great idea as there is bugger all space to fit the likes of gauges or anything for that matter in the office of a VX Prado.
However, a quick check revealed the SRS side airbag is in the pillar.
Fitting the pod only requires removing the drivers grab handle which would not affect the airbag but I do hesitate to muck around in that area.

Has anyone fitted a pillar mounted gauge pod into their Prado?

Post some links and pics for the pillar mount you are looking at...

as a general rule, soon as that SRS airbag is in the pillar that option for mounting is out as the gauge locations affect the way the airbag will sit against the pillar even if it can be argued that they won't interfere with the actual deployment.

I would like to see someone develop a gauge pod that sits above the vents in the center of the dash, saves the drama of dealing with SRS issues.

Would one from a 70 series fit? The one that holds the second fuel tank gauge. Could modify it.

Brother just said the Holden Adventra has dash center gauges. Below is a link with a photo of the dash. Another option.

That's exactly what I am thinking about, now if only someone would build it! I might have a look over the weekend and see how difficult it would be to mould with fibreglass.

The other thing to remember is that when the airbag deploys it forces the pillar trim out of the way, so the additional width of the pillar mount may interfere with this part of the deployment as the gauge mounts hit the screen.
I'd be looking at an alternative location, something neat to sit on the binnacle sounds good.
Does the scan gauge givevyounthis functionality as that sits neatly on the steering wheel surround?
