  • Window Tinting

    Hi All,
awaiting delivery of my GXL and just wanting info/feedback in regards to tinting.Im in QLD with the T35 legality of tint and just wondering what others have done with theirs.I hate the look of the lighter front windows that people have due to the darker privacy coloured glass in relation to the T35 fronts.
I hear that the privacy is a pretty close match to T20 tint which although not legal looks good and from what i see around a few people have it..I also am told that the privacy glass requires some type of UV protection film over it is that true?Any info advice and also pics would be a great help

To match the privacy glass you do have to go darker than T35 but this is not legal as you said.

As for the privacy glass it is just that. It does not block UV so yes protective film is required. Once it is done it is a little darker again but a good tinter can then match the front and it looks uniform and keeps the nasty UV out.

It was a mates 150 so can't exactly remember. I'm sure over the privacy glass they used an almost clear film so only darkened it slightly. The front was tinted to match so I guess it would be T20 but the correct colour gave him a perfect match.

I will ask the question next time I see him and let you know.

As for problems neither himself or his wife have ever mentioned it was an issue. I have driven the vehicle and didn't give it a second thought from a visibility point.

If your thinking about the money and its just yourself do the front only. If you have a family or just simply wish to protect the interior do all the windows it's worth every cent IMO.

Just a note a dealer will on sell and make a cut so get it done after delivery.

          G'day tamey,

Being an ex tinter I agree with hazza said, privacy glass is just coloured glass. If parked in the sun it will heat up and make the interior very hot.
I have a Grande with privacy glass and tinted it with 18% all round. Makes the rear very dark, but also a lot cooler in the sun.
The standard tint has a green tinge to it, so 35% will always have the green, unless you go darker like 18% or lower.
I figured it's only illegal if you get caught.

          Cheers

I think WA laws are 35% front and 25% past pillar.

I had 22% on my WRX and never had any trouble with police as the rest of the car was completely stock.

I figure with a 150 series Prado, you would have to be VERY unlucky to attract any attention from the po-po..... and just had 16% applied today.

It actually doesnt look too illegal to me. There are certainly alot worse out there!

Keep in mind that if you put 35% tint all round it will lower the total amount of tint as the front is already slightly tinted glass. I found out the hard way and got checked at an RBT recently. The front came in at 28% and the rears 11%. The cops gave me a warning to get it fixed but I'm now tagged and if they check again they said they'll yellow sticker the car. Not happy... I didn't mind the front's being lighter but I did think they were still legal. Guess not.

p.s. The cop told me it is 35% front and 20% rear allowable.

I got mine done by motor one at spring wood. I don't know what they put on it but they put a uv film on the privacy glass and a tint on the front and I can't spot the difference. You're welcome to come and check mine out if you like.
