    Hi Guys

Im about to lease a new 150 and plan to sell my current 150 D4D - dont ask, accountant says, i do.

Anyway im trying to work out whether to trade it in on the new one or sell privately.

Its a 2010 GXL, 60,000 kms, silver, extremely good nick, never been on the dirt, standard other than a TJM nudge bar, toyota tow bar and roof racks.

Redbook is suggesting a private price of 45-49k and a trade in price of 38-43k.

Does that sound about right to people based on your own experiences?

If the estimates are reasonable it would seem worth the hassle to try and sell privately?

    cheers

I just purchased a late 2010( first rego 2011) GX T/D Auto with 50,000 on the clock.ARB bar, Dual battery, 12 months rego.
Paid $35,000 for it but I feel I got a real good bargain. I looked at GXL,s but the budget didnt allow. Mid to high 40,s for your car sounds fair to me.

    Cheers

Have a look at carsales.com.au for a comparison of what others are asking. Whats a new one cost in SA? The drive away advertised price in WA for a new GXL auto D4D is $60990. Plus $4.2k for bull bar, tow bar and mats etc. So not many used late model ones being advertised ATM in WA as they come to close to this price once stamp duty is added. But WA cars like this are typcially $5k to $10K dearer than over east.

I think you can save thousands by putting in a little effort for a private sale. From experience, Redbook figures are always on the high side, even though my cars were in very good condition. Also, the advertised price on places like carsales doesn't mean thats what it sells for. It all depends how quick you want to sell, but every Dollar above the trade-in price will be a Dollar in your pocket. Good luck, either way. Fred

On the flip side, if you have been claiming the car as a tax deduction and sell it over the depreciated value, that will be taxable, so not every dollar may end up in your pocket

Hi Craig - at this stage of the process $40k feels a bit light mate, but thanks anyway!

For the Qld market that Redbook value is about right. May be different in SA though.
