  • ARB roof rack - installing the mounting rails

The instructions are pretty lousy, and i can't figure if its installed correctly.

Has anyone installed the rails, and do they toe in or out?

When i put them on toeing it, they don't look level as much as when they toe out?

Something tell me i've installed them wrong.

Wrong way! These legs face in not out.

I just reversed them, and they angle up (is this normal???).

I didn't install the rack on top of it, would like to hear others opinions on if theirs is like this?

No but it will bend down ok. Are you sure they are seated correctly? I used sinkaflexed between the roof and rubber gaskets and in the holes. Do you have the instructions from ARB?

Jasen it is rail one per side.

EDIT: I should have the instructions. pm me an email address and I will send them if you don't have the paperwork.

email on its way. Looking at the second pic the only thing I can think of is that the little tubes that protrude through the roof channel are squashed under the ARB foot. Make sure the tubes are through the holes in the feet. I remember that some of those tubes on mine had been presquashed so you can use a pair of pliers to get them round again and upright!

Actually reminds me of the Tigerz-11 things that mmr had. They fitted all over the place but the ARB rail is much better and mine went on almost perfectly straight.

Jasen the rails look mostly like this, mine were edited for bad behaviour.

Bear in mind I stuffed with mine and modified the rails and mounts and used a non ARB rack but it should look a bit like this.

When I installed the ARB rails on my 120, they were almost level, not angled up. The tubes need a little straightening some times as mjrandom said and the ARB seals need to be stretched slightly around the outside of the tubes so the rails seat correctly and the seals set against the roof.
Putting the rails on is the easy part, compared to fitting the nut plate under the middle mount on the rails. From memory my son and I ended up taping the nut plates on to the rails before dropping the rack over the top. Even then, we had to elongate some of the holes in the rack to line everything up. It is a great rack but the design of the mounts is poor
              Cheers........wayne

If they are arb ones, they can only fit one way based on the width of the mount points. Would pay to silicone around the existing tube bits surrounding the bolt holes toa, as i found out the hard way that that can tend lo leak otherwise. When i put mine on they didn't sit right until i had tightened all the bolts down.

Thanks for all the replies, Im starting to doubt if i got the right ones.

(MJ thanks for the email, the instructions I received were black and white – the colour is definitely a lot easier to follow.)

The ones in the manual and all over the internet i've seen are a C channel section, whereas mine is like a Z profile... (the bottom curls).

I might take it off one more time double check the tubes to see if they are coming through the rail seats correctly,

BTW - my rack is a ARB touring rack (if that makes any difference)

That's weird, while I haven't seen the 150 frame I would expect it to be a C section like the 120 and others and not a Z as you have. Did you buy the gear from ARB?

Hopefully someone who has the rails fitted to a 150 can jump in otherwise give ARB a call Monday.

I have a 150 with ARB rack and the rail is a C section, Not a Z as you have been supplied.

                          Cheers

I think someone in the production plant has bent the rail the wrong way.

G'day Su888 I fitted mine the same way.... it makes a perfect fit in the gutter the laser cut writing on the rails faces the right way.
