  • Bogged or just momentarily stuck?

Got the mighty Prado momentarily stuck on the beach today..it sank like a brick to the chassis.. took me about 15 minutes to get it unstuck and back underway.
SWMBO says "we were bogged" I replied "nope, we were momentarily stuck, being bogged is when you cannot get yourself out..then you are bogged"

What do others think..Are you bogged or just momentarily stuck if you can get yourself out ?

    Cheers
    Steve

I reckon some more details on how you were failing to proceed, are in order. Special attention to details of regaining forward momentum should help to enlighten.

Sounds like just practicing to me.

Well you got going again in short order, so "momentarily" is kinda how is was.

I reckon "bogged" is when you're really stuck and its up to other vehicles to get you out. Preferably, before the tide comes back in.

I think you better add at to the other thred, " has anyone used treds".
Treds & str8 out in the same line, nice.

Now bogged.....? I think if u can't drive out of it without any assistance is bogged.
But it's a good question, I guess you could say you were stuck, not bogged because it wasn't boggy?

Isn't it amazing the difference tyre pressure makes? At 25psi & moving & power you got stuck?
Then at 18psi treds got you out, I assume you were able to stop & grab them, then drive off.....
Bogged, just another word for fun really. If you never got out, you are definitely bogged.

Like Jasen said tyre pressure, and go as low as you need but the lower you go the more careful you need to be, forward momentum is your friend and know which way your wheels are pointing. If you are following tracks in the sand don't deviate. If there is someone bogged ahead of you come to a slow gentle stop, for safety sake don't take a new line and go flying past them. There could be kids around, they could be in the middle of a recovery or they may need your help

And in answer to the original question... momentarily stuck

Isn't the correct response "I'm not bogged, I've just lost traction"?

Ask Stewy... He's the expert on "I'm not stuck, I've just momentarily lost forward direction of travel"

If you get yourself out before anyone else sees you... Nothing happened.
If you get yourself out but someone sees you, I call it stuck, but not bogged

I can relate to the seaweed. Even worse is when it gets covered up with more sand and then begins to rot. It becomes a smelly soggy void that you can't see. The lee side of Fraser is known for this.
