GVM Upgrade

Greetings All,

does anyone know if there is a GVM Upgrade kit available for Prados? They're available for larger Landcruisers and Hi-Lux utes but I haven't seen one for Prados.

I've tried Lovells NSW and ARB here in Vic but wondered if someone knows if there's a company who has done the hard yards and is approved with Vic Roads.

I understand Nunawading Toyota's 4wd division (they have a separate workshop for working on 4bys) do some GVM upgrades but don't know whether they do Prados. Worth calling them up and asking or if you can drop in, the 4wd workshop is a separate building (older) on the left of the main showroom. If that doesn't work out, PM me and I can give you the name of a VASS engineer (VicRoads approved) who can discuss what is required to make it all legal (he is a friend of mine).
Reckon it would be easier (and maybe cheaper) to buy a 200 series though

My understanding in VIC is it needs to be fitted with the GVM upgrade before first reg, it can't be retrofitted after.

Yeah way too hard after first registration.

If its after rego the upgrade is never recognized in states other than which it is registered in.

Also.. It won't be a big gvm upgrade and you'll probably lose towing capacity...

My SX Prado now has a Gross Vehicle Mass Upgrade from 2600 kgs to 2990 kgs

My SX Prado is now rated to carry 2990 kgs GVM the same as a 5 door diesel Prado. I submitted the Certificate to VIC Roads yesterday and I've received an amended Rego sticker with the new GVM. Wooley is right you do lose your towing capacity but I've never wanted to tow 3 tonne anyway.

My VASS engineer is Bill Malkoutzis from Talk Torque Automotive 03-9439-2334.

What made it easy for 3 door owners is the fact our part numbers are used in the 5 door wagons and so there's no difference with any of the load rated components. Obviously there are other things Bill had to take into consideration but overall it was achieved with the minimum of fuss. I'm stoked..!

Now I'll get the after market suspension lift and 265/75P17 tyres and raise the car a bit higher.

Do Vic go by VSB14 and if they do just curious if anything was required to be done with the ESC?
