  • Changing fog lights to led DRL

    Hello all,
I have been pondering changing my Foglights on my prado 150 tjm bullbar to LED daytime running lights. I think they are are a H11 bulb or similar so I was just going to buy a cheap led replacement bulb off eBay and change wiring so they turn on with ignition and turn off when headlights are turned on as per WA law. I will do this using a simple NO relay and NC relay. Has anyone tried this? I don't drive in foggy conditions and Foglights are illegal over here with most WA cops.
    Regards

You can't change the bulb type to make the fog lights legal. They are still fog lights. You will need to change the complete light and have the DRL dim or switch off when the parkers are on.

How are they still fog lights if they are under 25watt and wired to come on with ign and off with low/high beam. That's my under standing of the law here in WA.

Sam look at this as well

Narva and others make a dedicated DRL that fits the TJM bar.

They retail for about $200 but you can do better than that. To comply with ADRs the DRLs can only operate with no lights or park lights. They must go off when low or high beam is on. As mentioned in the electrical section

You can use the fuel filter heater wire as the power supply (just need a relay in the main fuse box) and then switch a relay to switch them off when the headlights are on. Some of the aftermarket DRLs come in a kit which allows you to simply tap into the main lights.

As mentioned in that first thread I am going to change mine to track lights so I won't worry about using them on the road but I am still looking at fitting DRLs in one form or another. I have some LED bulbs to try in my driving lights but also will get some proper DRLs if that is unsuccessful.
