  • Transfering Registration from WA to QLD.

I need to transfer my Prado's rego from WA to Qld. seeing we are back in Qld.
Can anybody give me a heads up on any pitfalls, or thing to do, or look out for, when I'm trying to get a Qld. "Safety Certificate"
How do they view vehicle mods & upgrades & is there anything extra I could do to make this an easy exercise.

    Cheers Ben

Brisbane - West End at the moment.
But if I can help out PP friends I not to worried where I end up going, as long as it makes an easy transition for me.
I just want to change Rego with no hassles.

Hutch or Craig may know someone near you. I am North West so probably too far.

Ahh, no, no, you have 14 days in Qld to change (from the time you take up residence so prove that).

I went through it about 12 months ago.

You have to get it inspected at a certified inspection station. It cost me $77 for it. Strangely it cost $125 for my boat trailer... Transport won't let you submit the change over form without the slip the inspector gives you.

The guy who checked my car was pretty good, he did comment on one of my tyres being lean on tread but did t make me change it as I said I was going to get 4 new soon. I guess it depends on who you go to.

My brother lived in Cairns for 5 years without changing his rego over to QLD from WA. He's only just moved back to WA.
                  Can't we just keep travelling?

And I got pulled over in WA just to check how long I was staying, when I arrived etc. I was already 3 months past my use by date but they wouldn't deport me. Safer to just follow the local rules. You know when in Rome visit the Colosseum.

Well it's been a while & now I have time & back in Qld. to try to transfer my Rego.
Getting a 50k service at Motorama Toyota Moorooka next week & happened to mention
needing a Safety Certificate to transfer rego from WA when setting date & time for service.
They said they do safety Cert's as well,
What's the feeling on getting them to do the inspection & Cert. while it's in for service,
or better to take it to someone else.

I did it a few weeks back. Took it to my local Opposite Lock store as I thought it best to go to a 4x4 shop as they're more sympathetic to all the mods. Only thing I had to do was remove the drawers and replace the rear dickie seats for the inspection. Price is the same whereever you go. PITA to have to do it though otherwise you have to get recertified as a five seater.

                        Cheers, Jim.
