Large Vent DS rear of GXL. What is it's Purpose and can I block it off?

In the process of fitting drawers and fridge slide. Have 2 Drifta drawers on the DS which leaves a gap at the side where I reckon I could store something like a tarp or awning mozzie net. Question is, if I store something there it will block off the large vent. Anyone know the purpose of the vent and if it is covered, will this cause any issues? I think it is for the rear air con and if so I don't want to overload the aircon

Possibly the air con and inverter???
