  • Key-less Entry

Firstly- I hope I have this post in the right forum. I have a 150 Prado GXL. Is it supposed to be keyless entry?- I believe so from reading the manual. And if so how do you get it to work? I certainly cant got it to function like in the diagrams. I think I need to have a trip to the service department and its going to be costly. Any one else had a problem?

Define keyless entry.. keyless as in not putting key into door but pressing a button instead, or keyless as in Passive Entry in that the vehicle unlocks as you approach?

Ah yes...passive entry - my mistake in terms. I have the remote in my pocket and hold the door handle when the vehicle is locked. It is supposed to unlock. This does not happen. Like-wise when trying to lock the vehicle on leaving using similar technique the alarm just starts to sound until I actually use the remote by pressing the button.

On the front door handles there are two 'notches' on the top of the handles. With the key in your pocket or close by (not inside) touching these locks the car. Opening is simply putting your hand inside the handle as you normally would to open the door. On the rear door there are two buttons, marked lock and unlock. I have no idea what they do

If you have another key inside the car it will do what you describe and you can only lock it with the buttons on the remote.

You might be meaning Smart Entry. Refer to your owners manual section 6-2 Customisation. In particular page 613 that deals with smart entry.

Remember you need to have the wireless key with you, and touch the pads located on the inside of the door grab handle to have the door unlock keylessly.

Yes this is exactly what I'm trying. But it doesn't work. Funny, I can open and lock the rear door by using the buttons marked lock and unlock no problems.

I have tried just as in the manual and yes I have the wireless key in my pocket. And yes I bought a new battery for it today. But the process doesn't seem to work. I will reread the customisation bit again. But that will be tomorrow now. Thanks for the advice.

Just a but more on the topic. Called in at the dealer today. The service guy couldn't get the function of smart entry to work. At first, he recommended that maybe I needed a new battery in the remote. Unfortunately I had just put in a new battery prior to calling in at the Dealership. He then suggested I will need to book it in for them to "have a look at it". I understand this and I was happy that they found the time to inspect it when I rocked in and at least I know now I'm not being a gumby and not holding my hand on the door handle properly!!! (but I do think its something obvious I'm not getting right)

Still trying to read through the manual on Smart Entry Setup. Can't find anything that helps when I can't lock or unlock the door.

Have you confirmed the spare key fob is not in the vehicle? As MJR said, this will give you similar symptoms.
                  Cheers

Now Here's something interesting. Looking at pg 604 of the manual it talks about a "enter" switch on the right side of the steering wheel. Its supposed to be right beside the "talk" switch. My vehicle doesn't have one!!!! I wonder why??? Is it because its an early model???

                        Thanks....MJR and SOZ
YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!! I have just done another search of the vehicle and found a hidden sealed envelope...with a spare remote and key. Removed that from the vehicle and the Smart Entry works!!!!!! Thanks to all you guys as I wouldn't have persevered as much without all this good support. I am just a new owner and brand new to PradoPoint but I'm luvin this forum(in a non threating way)................Now all I have to do is find the "Enter" switch.

Perhaps the missing remote is somewhere in the car, this would definitely cause the problem. When my fob is at the back of the car it will only allow me to unlock the back doors keylessly.

Edit: I just posted this as you did the previous post. Glad it's solved.

NR great result! Not only do you have your sensor pads working you have a second key! As for the entry switch, I have no idea what the manual is referring to, pretend you didn't read it!

Great find, you've just saved yourself a bucket load of money as well! Second fob is worth $500, if you loose your one and only key it'll cost you $2000+ I believe! That's a lot of cash that can be better spent elsewhere.. I hope you enjoy your 150', I love mine and the proximity key is fantastic.

                              Cheers
