  • Temporary false floor

I have just completed a drawer system and fridge slide and would like a solution to secure everything in the back. I currently use straps which I'm not happy with due to them not being rigid enough.

I would like to use the existing tie down points to secure the tie down system through cuts in the original rubber mat (3rd row still in), I want the mounting system to be low profile so as to maintain a flat platform. I am considering timber planks, aluminium/steel angle and square tubing. I don't know how to effectively connect these to the tie down points due to their akward shape.

Should I use big bolts with big washers? some kind of plate ?
    Appreciate any ideas.

Tauras, not really sure what your question is. Are you putting a complete floor in? If you have rear seats are you taking these out or putting the floor on top? I removed the rear seats and fitted a piece of 18mm structural ply. I have used the 4 M10 captive nuts at the back to bolt the floor down and installed 4 M6 rivnuts (nutserts) in a channel at the front that runs across the back of the car. The rear nuts are those that are used to bolt the seats in but the front captive nuts sit at 45 degrees in that channel I mentioned so it was easier to put in new captive nuts.

Then I used the factory tie downs on the LHS by chiselling a 12mm deep recess (from memory) like a mortice and then used a new cap head screw through the tie down into the nuts beneath.

You can see the setup in this shot.

On the other side I simply recessed the holes using a spade bit before drilling the hole for the bolts and fitted the cap screws with large flat washers sometimes called panel washers.

This way I can used the factory tie downs for loose stuff on the open part of the floor.

For the battery box and fridge tie down I fitted screwing insert nuts that are common in cabinet making and screw into these to secure the battery box and tray and also the fridge mount that suits the fridge.

Hopefully this gives you an idea.

I made a false floor as well (keeping the third row of seats in) and made 2 fridge slides to bolt to it. I just removed the tie downs and got some long M6 x 1 bolts that go through my false floor and bolt into the points where the tie downs are with big washers on them. It's not as solid as bolting it to a steel floor because you get a bit of movement in the seat backs but it works fine.
