Price / source new spare electronic key / fob

Has anyone had to replace a spare electronic key ? I lost my spare key, spoke to Toyota about a replacement and they quoted me $576.80 (WTF?) to supply a new electronic fob along with the key that sits inside it. They said if I lost my one and only key then they would charge me about $1,800 to get into the car and code a new key!
I am guessing that there is no where else I can go apart from Toyota to get a spare key cheaper than this? Has anyone had to replace their spare key and is their a cheaper option?

I have a a mate who bought a remote online but it still cost him about 400 and he still had to get it programmed in and buy a key for inside it. What a rip off!.

try a locksmith , we have several in Perth that come out to the car and make one for a lot less than Toyota. Are you in the RACV ..RAC.. NRMA ..you could get one for free if you loose yours.

There is quite a few threads already on this, don't be afraid to have a search. The long and short of it is basically you'll need to buy a new key from Toyota, so try and avoid losing your fob!

When I bought my Prado back in August it only had one key.....Also quoted circa $500 to replace....being a tight @$$ I searched high & low for alternatives, to no avail...In the end, sucked it up and got a second key through the dealer...yes I paid $500, and yes it nearly killed me...but couldn't bear the mucking around with just one remote...
