  • Bluetooth transmitted voice quality

Just wanted to see if anyone had experienced similar issues. I have a 2012 build 150 GX with the basic factory audio system. I have an HTC One phone with all current updates.

Bluetooth streaming and call functionality works fine. I can hear people talking in a call perfectly, however they can barely hear me, so much static and noise that i cant be understood apparently.

I had Toyota look last service and they made some gain adjustments which I think has made things worse.

Has anyone experienced similar? I will try to pair someone elses phone and see if it is any different.

I have an HTC One XL paired with my factory audio system, a couple of weeks ago, I could hear others but they couldn't hear me. Rebooted the phone when I got home and all came good. Worth a try for you too.

I had the hd2 and it sucked balls for bluetooth calls. Every call I made I had up the volume on the handset as it would reset after each call. Diced it and upgrade to an iphone and the issue disappeared.

Upgraded to iPhone? Dont think ive ever heard anyone make that statement! lol.

Thanks for the replies, this has been a problem for a few months since I've had the car so a reboot may not help. I did do a phone software upgrade at one point which made the text come up on the screen when streaming audio from spotify which didnt before.

I am thinking it may be too much gain on the mic, that would distort my voice and could explain why its worse since the service as they would have increased it.... I'll try and find out how to adjust it.

        Cheers,

Interesting. What year is your car Checkers?

I figured out how to turn the mic gain down (just press the seek up/down buttons when in call), apparently its not perfect but its much better, will keep monitoring.

Mines a GX so has the standard toyota 2din unit in the top dash section. Probably different bluetooth interface.

My GX has exactly the same problem as yours, Kyle. It apparently sounds like I'm using a couple of jam tins and a piece of string. In the car, the received voice quality is perfectly acceptable. It seems to be phone independent. Interesting about the mic gain adjustment - I'll try that.

Cheers Mike, let me know how you go with it. May just be an excuse for an upgrade to an alpine dvd screen....

I have a 2013 GXL coupled with a HTC One XL. I use it for music streaming and voice calls. Its brilliant. Better than any other car I have owned. My son uses his phone on the minesites up north with the GX for streaming music. He raves over how good the quality of the music is. Its one reason why I have not fitted a cheap radio and gps in place of the oem product.

I agree, music streaming works really well. Use it almost all the time, straight from spotify too, music isnt even always stored on my phone.

I have the same issue as you kyleh, also in a GX (2010) when phone handsfree is is super clear at my end but who ever im talking to say that my voice is very unclear. am yet to try the gain adjustment you mentioned above but will do soon. has anyone looked into replacing the microphone??

just off the subject a bit are you saying that you can stream music from you phone to the car stereo via Bluetooth on a GX with out using the USB port?

Gain seems to have worked, im not getting complaints talking to people now. Not sure if there is an external mic or its the little slot on the unit itself?

Yes you certainly can stream music, its brilliant. Pair the phone like normal then select BTA (bluetooth audio) as the source. By default mine starts using the default music player on the phone with the default song on the phone (driving me mental). But you can use other players on the phone, I use spotify, either playing offline playlists or streaming from internets. Quality is surprisingly good.
