I don't know how many others have noticed this, but I was astounded to find the sub-floor in the cargo area of my new, 2014 Prado GX is actually made of Polystyrene! (Glad I checked before I threw the tools in!!)
I have removed the rear carpet, and the Polystyrene "pad" and reconstructed the base of the rear floor from layers of Plywood, with cutaways to miss the lumps bumps and wiring under there.
Noise deadening matting went under the ply, then a foam layer before a sheet of automotive carpet from Bunnings to make it look, more or less, like standard.
I can now place my toolboxes in the back without fear of them crushing the floor material.
.....Oh, and I also fitted some running boards. Looks better!
