  • Toyota Link

Downloaded the app and found it to be working, on the new 2014 Prado you can get, nearest fuel station and prices, google search, weather including the BOM radar, and toyota help.

It uses the bluetooth on your phone to connect to the internet through 3G and is quite handy. It said in the owners manual and when I took delivery that the service wasn't available but it sure is.

    Anyone else had a go?

So now TMC can see what you are up to with your vehicle every time you log on. Very clever.

And find another reason no to honour warranty claims becouse of how you are using it.

        Tin foil hats on boys......
If they don't want to honour your warranty they just won't, look under your car and see if you can see any scrape marks, that's enough for them to deny warranty if they want.

All Toyotas have pre crash recordings now anyway, so they know what you've been up to by downloading that in a claim. It stated very clearly in the manual too, as a subtle hint that they will know if you f'd up or not.

The Toyota link feature is similar to iOS in the car which going to be standard in all cars one day. I particularly like the BOM radar, makes knowing if where I am heading to is currently raining or not. Sure, can look it up on my phone anyway, but now I can do it while driving with taking my eyes off the road.

            Thanks for this information.
I am new to Pradopoint, I have a 2014 Kakadu on order and just had a look at the service.
Here is where to find out about the service, what it can do and how it works.

Does anyone know if this is related to Apple's "carplay" that has just been released? Looks similar but fear it is not the same offering as carplay.

Interesting comment about Toyota warranty. I've had 6 Toyota 4WD's and never had an issue getting warranty for something legit? I might be a dummy but if I cause something to break I don't try and claim it either.

Same way you change the volume or check you speed with a glance? Or at the lights? Touching your phone is illegal and mines in a cradle on the passenger side of the transmission so its not within reach or viewable, the massive colour screen at the TOP of the dashboard is.

Thought that would have been obvious...

I downloaded Toyota link a few days ago, it is a handy app to have. We'll worth the time. It would be great if in the next upgrade it had an option to mirror your phone image i.e. navigation. Now that would be handy.

That is what Apple Carplay is about, but its most likely a top down feature, that it will come in new models only and start at the luxury end since it requires a proper touch colour screen.

I would like to think it is retro fitted with software, but it all depends on what features are required to make it all work. The new Toyota system looks promising but we won't know for some time.

I think Toyota could make most of the same features easily enough, but need to find a way to more seamlessly engage the phone then having the owner open the app first.

My dealer tells me you can put GPS on this system.
It's downloaded by a third party and around the $1600
                            Mark.

I'm waiting to hear back from the installer.

                            Regards
