Gxl doesn't have navigation, so all the apps that use navigation don't really work, like destination download.
The weather app works and the fuel finder works too, but you'll have to navigate to the station yourself ....

Does anyone know how to have the GPS navigation on whilst on a phone call without the navigation interrupting and talking over the phone call? As in some sort of mute feature so that it still directs your on the map without the talking I guess?

Very annoying to say the least.

        Thanks in advance!

Hello Sammy Z, yes this is very annoying and let's not get into Toyota should do this automatically.
I worked out if you push the turn off button for the head unit it will mute the sat nav voice, while still allowing you to carry on with your phone call. The screen stays active so you can watch the sat nav directions.
I have a 2014 Kakadu and this does the trick.

The fact that Toyota have handicapped the GXL by not allowing an upgrade path for SATNAV is clearly the most frustrating feature.

I have only had mine for 4 weeks and it has me gobsmacked that Toyota have put so much effort into forcing you to upgrade to the VX if you want basic features like LED running lights and the SATNAV option... hell, make it 2k and if we are silly enough to pay it we will.
Now we are left with the aftermarket option and I have spoken to a guy who has it and he has glitches so I am not gonna be a beta tester.

The 2014 Kakadu head unit is only $1200 but word is they have put a different loom in the GX/GXL and VX/Kak models to be sure you can't do it.

Pretty ordinary if that is true

The one thing about my Prado GXL Fcelift is the Toyota Link - it is a waste of time, it was explained to me that "destination download" works on the GXL - but as we know it does nothing more than put a small picture in there and is otherwise useless. I dont see why they cant use the GPS in the phone and replicate that on the screen via Bluetooth! Thats a simple software change. Bit peeved really!

                1. BT Messaging - All iPhone 4, 5, and 6 can receive messages and have them verbally read out on the Prado range from Oct 2013 update - As mentioned above, any dosconnection of BT, vehicle battery, new pairing of a phone to the headunit requires you to go to Settings on your iPhone, Bluetooth, select the little blue i beside your current connection, enter the ub menu and slide "show notifications" to ON. It is kind of like the iPhone has a default pop-up blocker - which is this case, we do want to allow.

                2. In regards to most Android products - Galaxy 3 onwards, HTC Desire onwards etc - you have the additional functionality of being able to send one of 15 pre-set messages back, whilst in motion in the vehicle. You can customise these messages if you wish whilst the vehicle is stationary. The message cost as usual will be charged to your phone.

                3. DRL's or Daytime running lamps as specified above, are not exclusively LED, though most are. In the case of GX and GXL Prado, they are lower lumen halogen lights. In the general case of DRL's, they have been determines to single handedly reduce daytime impacts in all markets by up to 25% - I'm reminded of my parents always asking for a non grey or silver car, to avoid the low light times like dusk and dawn when it is harder to see, and during storm season. This means your vehicle is much easier to see.

                4. Toyota Link Level 1 and Level 2 - only distinction is Level 2 has Sat/Nav as standard.

                5. Fuel finder - depends on the fuel station being registered with motormouth.com.au, Weather comes via bom.gov.au and Local search is provided by Google.

                6. In regards to the destination download functionality - yes, you get the greater convenience when you have a Sat/Nav equipped vehicle, however if you look at this as a symbiosis with your phone it will do you in good stead. Rarely do people jump in the car and start driving without any idea of where they are going. Best idea for a non-sat nav equipped model is to open Toyota Link before leaving, search for your destination - send to car when the pin is identified in the map, then also open your normal Apple or Google maps, depending on your hand set - activate voice commands, hook up via bluetooth with audible sat/nav commands. As you have sent your destination to the car already, you will have in the system, name, phone, address and small, inactive map of your destination. What's the point right? Well, if you are 100's of km's away, not much. However, it is generally rare for an Aussie to not have SOME idea of getting to their destination ie: I can get from Brisbane to Rockhampton pretty easily - but I will have nfi of where to go WHEN i get to Rocky. The benefit of this system is it can be refreshed by leaving the destination and going back into it - thereby refreshing the map -and when you are within a couple of km's of your destination you will be able to see more detail on the screen, when you zoom "out" and see both your relative position, and that of your destination. Work that hand in hand with your bluetooth commands coming through from your phone on the car stereo - and you have something more than you did before.

There is always going to be something more we could do, or want to have, or wish it did - but for an improvement that will change, adapt, have more applications added over time (Traffic application coming soon, and internet radio within 12 months!) and better yet, came with a more aggressive front fascia, improved lighting and safety, and no great increase in cost - not too bad.

But again, that is just my opinion

Anyone know how to access a hidden screen on the update models, used to be able to do it by pressing the top and bottom corners in a particular sequence on the 120 series GPS units. My GPS is freezing and I would like to reset it somehow. Have it booked in to be looked at anyway but knowing how to reset it myself may come in handy in the future??
