What do "Apps" do in 2014 head unit

Hi all

Can anyone confirm what does the "Apps" function do on the 2014 head units? I have had a look on Toyota website and it appears that I can stream mapping info (and other functions) from my phone via Bluetooth? Is this your understanding?

What your referring to is called "Toyota Link":

The "How-to Videos" is very informative describing the system and how each of the included applications work.

Basically you install the Toyota link app on your iPhone or Android phone and run it, then go into the apps and currently you can access, weather including radar, search google for fuel and download destinations from your phone to the navigation if fitted, if not then you get a destination address and map, but no navigation.

best thing is the doppler radar via the met site - you can storm chase in a parking lot!

I searched for fuel on on the Bruce Hwy and then used Siri to direct me to it, listening to her directions through bluetooth audio. Great system, because it utilises my existing smartphone rather than try to duplicate it with half-arsed attempt from Toyota.

I have read that if you loose your keys Toyota can actually open your car through the use of the Toyota link via your phone which will send a signal to your car, not bad but can they start your car if you've lost your keys?

The head unit in my Prado updated recently through the Toyotalink App, and added Pandora internet radio to the Apps already present. It seemed to work OK for the 20 minutes I used it. It's a step in the right direction.
