I've seen a few in traffic, it looks odd, not for me.

        I have looked at it.

Its a great shopping / Mum / Kids vehicle.

The rear door is feather light.

        The window handy.

It has GPS navigation, a great sound and video system including a DAB digital radio (from the specs vis a vis the digital radio), the fake and real leather, titanium plastic (nicer than plane grey), the seats are two tone (lighter in the middle as a good limited edition should be), the seats are electric although limited in function, its got a sun roof (normally only Kakadu gets one). So for kids its great.

        The downside:
Its costly - $75k they were asking.
While a GXL costs around $60k now (current special RRP is 62K for an auto diesel I think and $60k is straightforward)
        You get:
DVD player with speakers and good sound - $3 k worth maybe I am guessing
        Sunroof - 2k
        Leathlook interior - $3K
Electric front seats (not memory and not sure if they are much better than GXL's): $1k
Carbon plastic looks better too: 0.5k ($500)
I am unsure if there is a depreciation benefit, as off roaders are unlikely to like it due to the single fuel tank.
Counter to that is that it will look like a 2014 vehicle, for sure ... so there should be a depreciation benefit ... lets say $2k.

I am unsure of what has been left out, but:
        DVD etc - $3 k
        Sunroof - 2k
        Leathlook - $3K
        Electric front seats - $1k
        Carbon plastic - 0.5k
        Depreciation benefit- $2k.

        Total: $11,500 benefit.

I am struggling to think its better value than a GXL at the current discounted price..

But great for around town and especially for shoppers and those who find the rear door too cumbersome.

I think a VX is better value though ... 78k is I think likely for them? Gold fleet discount is $75.8k. You get all that stuff bar the sunroof, plus you get KDSS, bigger fuel tank etc.

Also don't forget that the $11,500 benefit is reduced by Toyota not having to install the 2nd fuel tank.

This Altitude is supposed to be only $5k extra for $10k worth of accessories. Wonder if any dealers are selling the Altitude at ~$65K driveaway?

I did forget about the cost saving of lacking the extra fuel tank. I guess therefor the $11k drops to $10k.

As far as discounting, Mine said that they are not.

Its interior colouring and features and the lightweight door are very superior for a parent with children IMO, as is the sound setup for trips. The door is feather light to open, and the window an obvious success for tight parking spots. And Dad ( these days I guess I should I say "the other partner" ???) gets a 4WD for the trips, although he'll have to fill up sooner. But New Zealanders haven't been complaining.

He also said that Toyota were looking (he presumed) at it vis a vis the next model ... so if it sells in large numbers at the RRP, then Toyota will continue that factor in new models he presumed.

I asked why not the window in the normal Prado, and the sales guy laughed ... and said the wheel gets in the way. Dumb old me. I then I thought why not a half window? But cost and dust leaks put that idea out of my head. Anyhow I do know that the rear side door is quite close ... but to a shopper with a trolley, the rear window flipping out must be a big benefit. Perhaps too, the view with the interior mirror is better, and perhaps, its less claustrophobic in the rear seats due to no rear tyre blocking things. The sales guy said these days car makings are trying to drop spare tyres ... God Forbid.

Also, the Kluger was not available / in very short supply for some considerable time, and because its made in the USA, there is no diesel. So a Prado setup up like the Altitude sort of competes in its diesel form, although it lacks a lot from the school run. Then again, it will last and last although the Kluger should too.

But they also have a hybrid Kluger but Toyota Australia have never sold it. It would be great for the school run.

my mum's BMW 1 series(now sold) when she bought new, it didn't have any spare tire, because it's equipped with "run-flat safety tyres", which you could still running at 90km/h for a couple hundred kms even after been punctured.... handy for a car like BMW 1 series or around town shopping cars, not so for a 4WD IMO....

The majority of people that buy a Prado use it as a shopping trolley and for running kids around in the 7 seats. It's no wonder they are trying to cater to their biggest audience

Yep, I think we are kidding ourselves if we think Toyota is looking at the 4wd market. soccer mums, mining and work vehicles and people towing vans or horses would cover most of the demographic.

Even on this forum, what percentage of people have actually travelled somewhere that 87 litres wouldn't get them to the next fuel station? I suspect not many.

                    Cheers Andrew

                          SOL.
I wonder if the door will fit the series one 150? Those that have a twin wheel carrier this would tidy up the back end nicely.
If I wanted to buy a four door I would get this and do a rear bar and get the biggest fuel tank possible fitted.

                          SOL.
I agree SOL I have a dual wheel carrier and think the door looks crap. If I could find one already painted in white pearl I would buy it in a heart beat. Cheers

New Prado Altitude - no spare on rear door

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see this thread before starting a new one.

I hope this doesn't go too well and they all become like this!

Only 87l of diesel. Heaven forbid.

                            Looks clean though.
