  • Rear Door Strut has come off

    Hi

My wife left her iPhone on the rear bumper and then closed the rear door. She managed to crack the screen on the phone as well as pop the gas strut off its ball joint mount.

I've tried to pull on the strut to reattach it but the strut is like totally retracted and it isn't budging. Does anyone have any tips on how to attach this strut back onto the balljoint?

    Regards
    Brett

The only thing I cam suggest is make sure the strut hasn't rotated to locked position. If it is ok just pull the strut out with whatever means you can and then lock it so it doesn't retract while you are refitting the strut. You may find taking the strut out completely and using a vice to hold one end of the strut will give you enough support to pull the strut out. Can you post pictures?

You may have locked it inavertantly. As suggested. Or take it off completely and reattach that way.

One final post to close this off, I tried my best to twist the strut in fully closed mode but with no result. I tried my best to pull the strut apart without twisting but no result. I took the car to Toyota and they fixed it for me in 5 minutes.. and they did it for free!
