  • Dual Battery Wiring

    Hi all
    2010 Prado GX
I know there is a heap of threads on dual battery setups and how to do it.
I can't semm to find the easiest / best way to run the wire to the back of the car for a fridge (Next to the factory plug already installed)
Is it best just to run underneath the chasis somewhere or is it recommended (or can you) run along the inside of the car under the scuff plates etc to the back..
    Any advice appreiciated.
    Cheers

Hi, under the scuff plates is the easiest way.
I did both ways. Along the chassis for caravan Anderson connection and through the firewall and along the passenger side to rear for fridge plug.
I followed Derek "ABR Sidewinders" instructions and it worked out great.I started from the rear and worked my way forward and through the big firewall grommet just behind and to the left of the glovebox. I ran positive and negative wires along the chassis, but only positive to the fridge plug, picking up the negative from a body bolt near the jack compartment.
It really was not a difficult job.

I manged to fit two runs of 8B&S twin core under my scuff plates in my 2010 GX. One for the fridge and the other for the accessories/Anderson plug mounted to the towbar next to the trailer plug. There is a couple of rubber grommets under the carpet in the cargo area that you can put the wiring through to get the power to the trailer. I think you need to have twin insulated wiring, which I used, when running twin core inside the car.

        Cheers for the replies.

Also do you run your 8B&S to a distribution board at the back or connect straight to the plug your gonna use.
I was told to run both - & + 8B&S all the way from front to back..Just wandering what you run it into.
Seems abit big to join straight to the outlet plug...
        Cheers again..

Depends what you are going to be doing. No reason why you can't have a distribution fuse box and then run from there to your consumers or if you just are going to have a single connection then hook up to a 50A Anderson plug. I ran mine (6B&S dual core) to an Anderson plug and then from there to the DC DC charger to the auxiliary in the back. Then from there to a fuse box and outlets. From my experience it is nice to have a couple of 12V sockets connected full time to the auxiliary as well as the fridge connector so you can charge phones and ithings over night.

I ran the cables back inside / on top of the chassis rails to the Anderson plug at the rear bar. When I needed to run fridge wire, I tapped it and put it up through one of the rubber floor grommets to the inside of the sidewall in the rear where I attached the engel plug.
