Hello all,
I purchased a Sidewinder spot light wiring kit for my Prado and did a search for adding switches to the blank switch panel on the right hand dash. Unfortunately after an hour searching how to access the switch panel I didn't find a step by step on how to remove the dash. I thought I would post one up for those who might be interested (it is actually quite simple when you know how).
Remove door sill. Stick your fingers under and it should just pull out.
Next to the accelerator is a black knob. unscrew and remove.
Pull the kick panel towards you and it will un-clip from the front
You will see a screw at the bottom of the dash in the middle and a 10mm bolt on the right. Undo both.
Un-clip the bottom panel.
CAREFULLY prise off the side panel (it marks very easily)
Grab the dash and pull it out.
That now gives you access to the switch block. you will see the clips that hold it in place and you need a screwdriver to press them in and the switch block will come out.
Because the new switch had a plug on each end I didnt want to have to make a large hole in the rubber grommet in the firewall so I took the pins out of the connector and fed them through a small hole in the rubber.
You need to use a hard piece of wire to push the bent bit at the base of the pin so it comes out from the back on each pin.
Make sure you push them back into the plug in the same order as they came out after they have been threaded through the grommet.
I hope this helps anyone who wants to add a switch.
cheers
Johno
