  • Alarm & Warning Sounds!

Ok so ive had the 150 GXL now heading on 3 months and all the alarms are driving me CRAZY!

The most annoying thing is when you stop, put it in park, put the hand break on and get out for what ever reason the car goes absolutely mental upsetting everyone else in the car. I can understand the alarms if you get out of the car and its in gear or the handbrake isn't on, but surely is smart enough to release the car has safely stopped for you to get out for a few moments.
Also having the accessories on for radio while cleaning the car with the doors open also results in alarms!

I'm surprised my search of the forums didn't return any results but im seeking help!
Im sure all these alarms aren't a legislated requirement?, would my Toyota dealer be able to silence these at my next service? is it something that can be done at a software level? or does something need to be modified on the car? Its a shame they cannot be modified to only sound when the handbrake isn't on as that would be ideal for safety.

Has anyone looked into this? Would by only option be to destroy the door open sensor? or is there a more elegant solution?

    -Brent

Thanks for that amts, very informative, I didn't think about searching 'chime'. I see people have had the chime disabled by their dealership while others were told its a safety feature and part of a (Australian Design Rule). I rang my dealership and they told me they would have to have a look at the car to see what options were available to be programmed and I was also told this was a safety feature that might not be able to be disabled.

I tried to google to see if a car door chime was part of an ADR and couldn't find any information on it. Does anyone know if this is an actual design requirement? because id like to argue with them to take it off if it isn't.

If the chime is an ADR then I guess every new car should do the same, maybe check out a few other late model cars and see if they do the same! Better still check out a few other new Toyotas, if you find one that doesn't and the dealer says its an ADR then get them to explain.

        Cheers Andrew

          Good point!
I also have Toyota Aurion 4 months old.
The only time i can recall the chime coming on is when you open the door with the keys still in the ignition or you don't have your seat belt on.

          Maybe that helps

It's Toyota's way of treating you like a complete f-wit!

Actually, I shouldn't just single out Toyota - all the manufacturers are treating motorists like idiots.

That's because more and more of them are. Someone probably sued them because they suffered mental anguish after leaving their keys in the car one day.

Pretty sure there is no ADR for these chimes, it's more done for the safety rating, all these chimes make for a high ancap rating. Same as the DRL there is an ADR for their design and use but no ADR that makes them a requirement like brake lights seat belts etc.
Asked my dealer to turn them off but got the safety requirement speech
