The display has gone very dark!

Hi all,
Very new 150 owner( GXL) and have noticed the display when reversing is very hard to see almost dark, sure it helps when i take my sunnies off
( Polarised) but also noticed that when i turn off the day time running lights the display gets better- besides rtfm any ideas?

Ah got it cheers , also looks like the tin lids may have been playing around too......
