On saturday I damaged my passenger rear vision mirror. No error codes or any indication that any problems existed except for cosmetic. I made the decision to remove the mirror because it was hanging by two wires and if it popped out it may have done some damage to the paint work.

Anyhow I taped up the two wires and tucked them in the body of the mirror for safe keeping.

I spent the night refitting my rear drawers for a road trip in a few weeks.

The next morning after deciding to use the car for an outing I noticed AFS OFF flashing on the the dash, the multi terrain function was also showing in the center section.

I quickly realized that most functions were unavailable. No A/C or fans, windows wont work, sunroof no go, reverse camera no go, all the functions from the menu were locked out.

It was a wet day and the front wind screen fogged up within two blocks and without any ventilation it was a show stopper.

All bragging rights I may have had are gone. Stupid kakadu

Not something as simple as a blown fuse from the two wires touching together or touching body work before you taped them up?

I am an idiot... It is definitely a blown fuse.

The drawers have squished the wiring loom from the rear seats and put the tiniest nick in one of the cables.

Cessnock Toyota went above and beyond the 70k service today to eliminate the mirror, very happy with them.

I'm not sure how long they spend on the mirror but there was no extra charge on top of the service. Thanks guys

Did you damage the mirror housing or just the glass? When my mirror glass got knocked out by some nufty in the car park at the local shops I was able to just pop the glass back into the clips that hold it in place. If it was just the glass then not too hard to fix.

In any case your issue wasn't caused by the mirror in the end so no more "stupid Kakadu" talk OK?

Smashed glass and indicator lens, damaged indicator lens, and the black plastic body has a few creases in it as well.

I have been informed through toyota and my smash repairer that the mirrors only come as a complete unit. An expensive complete unit.

Sorry for the misguided Kaka bashing, I'm back in love.

            All is forgiven!

You might be lucky and find a wrecker with one.

If you tow you might look at the clearview mirrors. (http://www.clearviewmirrors.com.au/1...Toyota_Models/)
About $800 for a pair. I thought someone said Kakadu mirrors were $1900 each!
Clearview have a video on how to remove/replace the mirrors.
they stick out further, are big and extend another 100mm for towing.
Saves adding towing mirrors each time you tow.
Could be a hassle in narrow driveways etc.

Yep, that's about right. The previous owner of my Kaka damaged a mirror and the quote on the service record to replace it was $1935 plus fitting! That was 4 years ago too. I don't know if it was replaced or repaired but it's the same one that the glass has popped out of twice now.

That is crazy talk, how can that be even remotely justified.

Must be the Kakadu badge tax! Don't know what a GX or GXL mirror costs but they don't have cameras or heating either AFAIK.

Im not sure on the $$ either and given the Kaka price I dont want to find out (although it has to be less). As you said no camera but they do have heating, GXL anyway unsure about GX. Heres to not breaking mirrors!
