There are a few repair kits on the market, has anyone tried any?
Do any of them actually work?

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

Toothpaste makes a good polish. There's been a few posts on here about headlight polishing, just do a Google search with "siteradopoint.com" at the end of the search criteria.

      Hey fido,

I searched but I used cleaning not polishing :-)
      Thanks for that.

      Admin, kill this thread

All good, hope you find the right product. My comment about toothpaste was not in jest, it does work.

Try a product called Plastix, works a treat. The same company makes a kit for restoring head lights

            Cheers

I've used this before on other vehicles, works great. I currently use this on the Prado as a preventative.

So I used the Meguiar's product today on both my Prado and the wife's Suzuki.

This is what you get in the kit

I wet the sandpaper pads in some water, and cleaned the headlight cover of the usual dirt.
Then used the 4 sandpaper pads, (the 3rd & 4th fine cut are on the one pad, different each side)
Starting with no. 1 - coarse, working the headlight cover left and right and then up and down.
After 2 mins going each way, the sun fading was gone, but there was the scratches from the sand paper.

                        Then I used pads 2, 3 & 4
By the finish of no. 4, the scratches were almost gone.

From there I used the Plastx which is a fine cutting liquid, with the Orange microfibre cloth.
Rubbing in circular patterns, I worked the plastic and removed all the scratches,
it was back to like when I drove it out of the dealership.
It took around 20 mins per headlight to get to this point.

From there I used the Headlight Protectant paste.
I wiped this over the entire lens, it left I light smear, which was then wiped off with a terry towel clothe.
The lens comes up looking this.

All in all happy with the result.
They have come up nice and clean, and now have a new UV protectant coating.
In future, I would just purchase seperate bottles of the Plastx and the UV Protectant.
They were on the shelf next to this product, for $20 per bottle, 200ml I think.

I say this, as I then went to work on the wife's Suzuki, but didn't use the sandpaper pads.
I just started with the cutting liquid. The lens on her car were much worse than the Prado,
And was starting to turning yellow.

The lens on the Suzuki came up just as good as the Prados.
Took the Suzuki for a drive tonight and took notice the light was clearer.

I will be purchasing the UV Protectant and reapplying it each 6 months or so.

I'm in no way associated with this product or paid for this review.

                          Geoffury,

Thank you for being the test subject and I will use your experience to do mine. I have the 120 and my headlight do need to polish.

I just used a light cut and polish compound and it worked a treat on my 150 series. In fact when I looked at buying a dedicated product from Repco the guy suggested I just use cut & polish, does the same job for half the cost!
