  • More quality issues - Sunroof Rubber Trim Cracking (Pictures inside)

Yeah, another thread from me and another complaint.

Long story short: Car is garaged in complete shade (No direct sunlight) every single day in my house, my daily commute involves parking the car outside for a couple hours a day only (4-6 hours), car is babied and washed with extremely careful (Im OCD) and i have washed it like 5 times only. Car has 5 months, 2k kilometers in the ODO and this $%&/("= rubber trim is already cracking!

I own a BMW and an Audi (All with sunroof) and they dont have a single problem with the rubber trim cracking at the sunroof or any windows at all. The Audi and the BMW is parked OUTSIDE 50% of the time (Garage only has space for 2 cars) and they dont have absolutely any cracking at all, those 2 cars are exposed to direct sunlight every single day!

    Anyone has the same problem?
How hard is it to change it? (I'd guess its easy but its still worth asking)
Anyone know the part number for that rubber trim?

I figured it out that you have the 150 series but nothing else about your rigs age etc so i checked the part number on the 2010 manual and the 2014 auto and they both came up with the same part number so i figure the part number i have has to be the be the correct one!

WEATHERSTRIP, SLIDING ROOF MOON ROOF 63251-12190 $32.96 + delivery through AMAYAMA.

Just confirm that part number but i am 99% its the correct number

Edit! I just noticed that your profile is "Central America" & your rig is only a couple month old!! Isn't your model a LEXUS GX400/460 model?

Given your over seas more info would help!

PPS If you have "LEXUS GX400/460 model" Then the part number is same as listed above!

    AMAYAMA

That looks like wildlife has got to it. Doesn't explain why they only like the rubber from Toyota and not from the Audi or BMW.

Looks like something has attacked the trim doesn't look like sun damage.

Looks to me like some thing is eating it, the corner part where it's really chewed out has some further marks in front of the missing rubber. I think maybe you have a bird or some thing that likes to have a feed on it. Is it more reflective then your other vehicles ?? May be the bird can see its reflection and thinks it's another bird like they some times do with side mirrors... Cheers Steve

As others mentioned above, looks more chewed than cracked

In Central and South America they sell the whole line of Toyota SUVS. (Lexus GX, Fortuner, 4Runner, Prado, Land Cruiser)
So you guys think it was wildlife? Screw them!
I hope this doesnt cause the sunroof to leak anytime soon. Not sure if the dealer will cover this, if not ill have to order the part myself and do it by myself.

As Steve pointed out, at every missing section, there are rub marks on the rubber if you look carefully. It is quite feint but you can see it.

I don't like your chances of claiming warranty for that one....... Cheers Steve

Agree with others. I live in a very dry, sunny part of the US where rubber likes to harden and crack, and I don't have anything close to that on my sunroof.

Maybe something is living in the garage? Put some baits out to try and catch or kill it.
Seems likely to me as the other two cars spend most of their time outside and it hasn't happened to them.

Enhanced image below. Definitely evidence of marks at each rip out section.
