I've got the rattle in the plastic around the gearshift too, Toyota couldn't hear it when it was in for a service but I suspect they didn't even listen for it because it's painfully obvious. I think it will be a case of fixing it myself, just need to find out how to remove the plastic parts without breaking anything. I have popped it up a little but reached a point where it was going to need a bit more force and I wasn't to keen to pull harder in case something broke... For the moment I just have to make sure the stereo is turned up, which leads me to my next rattle, the passenger door has a rattle but that seems to be caused by the speaker. I haven't attempted to sort that one out yet.
If anyone has removed the plastic around the gearshift I would be very grateful to find out how it's done!

well seems like we are all in the same boat, i brought it up at my 10'000km service interval last month. they didn't fix it, but they did crash my car into a pole, than denied it, so that's nice.
according to them, its an unknown fault, the rattle that is....

I had a rattle in my Discovery, and it turned out to be a CD plastic case in the passenger front door bin. It sounded like it was coming from the front left dash.

              hi guys,
I have had a small rattle in the dash of my 150 since new. I couldn't pick the spot, I spoke with Toyota and they needed a bit more than a "rattle please find it". about a month ago I had the privilege to drive on a trip down south by myself without the kids. I hunted and hunted and ended up finding it in the bottom left side of the steering wheel. I just had to depress the horn a bit (not enough to get the horn to operate) and the noise stopped. I dropped it into Toyota and the promptly inserted a small amount of packing under the steering wheel. I am a happy man now. Perhaps that helps.
              Cheers

The gearshift creak/rattle has been a constant. I've taken it Toyota several times and they tell me they've taken the cover off and replaced it a few times...but never once did they hear the sound. Since then, I've worked out that when it's cold, it's fine. But when the car warms up, either from the heater or just later in the day, the plastic expands and Bam..there's your sound..constantly. I've booked it in again to get looked at, maybe they can replace it with a new cover or even better, some silicon or something to buffer it.
They'll also be looking at the very loud rattling they fixed about 2 months ago by adjusting the Pillar and heater box in the cabin..it's back with a vengeance..first world problems I know, but when you pay serious $$ for a car, you expect a little quality.. On the plus side, it drives like a dream..I should have dumped the old VE commodore a lot sooner..
