  • Fuel light

Hello, I've just bought a 2012 Prado, gxl Diesel with 37000 km on it and now it's got 43000 km and every time I fill the car up it runs fine, until the fuel gauge falls to the first line on it. (So I've used quarter of a tank) than the water sensor light comes on. I've played with the fuel filter but it keeps coming on. I just keep resetting the sensor light, which is frustrating and I'm getting over doing this. so my questions are,

How do I stop this light from coming on??
And what happens to the fuel system when this light is on??
Will I have to do drain the fuel tank or something, and how hard would this be to do!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

Have the fuel filters been replaced??

Start by replacing both the underbody and underbonet fuel filters and see how you go from there.

So I just have A quick look under the car and I'm guessing that underbody fuel filter is halfway down the back tail shaft straight above that??

The under body filter in between the fuel tanks.
See this thread on how to change it.

I would change both fuel filters on your car. I would also consider fitting a fuel water seperator filter, on your car.
I fit a caterpillar 150 micro filter on my 2014 Prado. Some other people have fit the caterpillar 5 micron filter or the fuel manager system.
        Worth doing in my option.

My 2013 150 just clocked 40000 and the fuel light came just before I put it in for its service. I was told by dealer that the filter under the bonnet needs replacing because sensors can detect a flow difference from inlet to outlet meaning filter is blocked. This filter is not part of any service and is only changed when light comes on usually around 40000 k's. Anyway $170 later all is good.

              $170........

I think you could hear my jaw hitting the ground........

Filter has a list price of $88.68, so they charged you $80 for 10mins work.......

              Oh what a feeling
