Prado 150 Airbag Suspension

In the process of picking up my Jayco Expanda Outback (1800kg) and keen to see what airbag suspension members have used on their 150. I have a 2" lift.

I used the firestone ones been in for two years no problems.

Polyairs in this Prado, and the 80 series cruiser before that for 17 years. No complaints.

What ever ARB sell (polyair I think), had them in a Patrol and now the 150 and never had an issue.

Can someone in layman's terms quickly describe to me the function/effect of airbags?

They assist the rear coil springs to hold the maximum load (up to 450kg in the 150) close to normal unloaded height.

But when unloaded you let the air out to 6psi and the rear end is nice and soft and at normal height.

With these bags you pump them up before applying the load. The max pressure is 30psi.

You can fit them to a vehicle with or without lift.

I have them in the 150 and its great as I have the advantage of a normal vehicle around town and then something that will take some weight on the occassional times I go bush.

They are not as good as the high pressure bellows but you cant fit these to the 150 due to the coil springs. But they are cheaper.

You can get a sleeve for them and then they are rated to 60psi!

I understand you can get sleeves for the firestone brand but not the polyairs.

I just went for the low pressure polyairs without sleeves as there are few horror stories with overloading and the use of low pressure air bags used at higher pressures.

I must have firestone then, as they were the two options at ARB. I went with low pressure too, since I wasn't loading anymore than people and a camper trailer. Its worth just to hold the weight of 150L of diesel in my opinion.

Ended up getting the Polyairbags $525 installed. Picked the Expanda up on Wednesday so hopefully will get to feel the airbags doing there thing.

I bit the bullet and am getting a set of Firestone Heavy Duty airbags fitted at the end of July, when my truck goes into ARB for a 3 inch TaipanXP exhaust.
