  • Do you have 2 baby seats - how do you fit them?

    Hi

We have a Maxi Cosi (Hera) behind the passenger seat for our little girl (terrible 2) but we're expecting the arrival of Junior anytime now so the maxi will be turn around for rearward facing.

Meanwhile, i have a spare one that we brought back with us from our last RoadTrip in the US so now i'm going to use it for my daughter.

So, where should i fit the 2nd baby seat? Behind the driver or in the middle? Any recommendation?

    Thanks

The rearward facing seat is easier to load/unload when next to the door but some say that there is less protection being that close to the door/window during a side on smash.

If you rarely use the 3rd seat in the 2nd row or the 3rd row seats, then mount both seats outboard.

If you carry a 3rd adult, then the rearward facing seat is next to the door (behind passenger) and the child seat in the middle.

We have the smallest child on behind the driver, the 4 year old in a big kids seat in the middle which allows the seatbelt done up from the passengers side and our 10 year old behind the passenger. All fit well and have no issues yet. We have tried other positions but this is the best for us.

If you bought it in the US it won't be legal here. Needs to have the Aussie approved sticker on it. Or did you bring it with you from here?

        Cheers Jim.

We once got baby Bunting to fit our Max cosi on the old X5 and they recommended/fit it behind the passenger seat. They even gave us a certificate for it (costed us $50 from memory).

              Good question Jim

I bought it from Costco in US which it's a brand that they have here as well, i think it's best if i double check with Costco first just to be sure.

              Thanks for that

Safest is Rearward in the middle as it's the middle of the car, provided the tether doesn't fall into the gap, otherwise:
Rearward behind passenger. Safer for you to be strapping and unstrapping and taking kids out on the kerb/transferring to prams etc. Also supposedly safer as its on the non traffic side when driving. Older kid can clamber across when needing to get out.

I'd have one on each side and a spare in the middle as getting to the clasps is hard when they're next to each other. When we had 2 boosters and one baby capsule across the back the middle kid was forever unclipping the baby booster by accident.

If you can, comsider hiring a baby capsule from baby r us or similar. Base stays in the car and baby stays in seat and just clicks n and out. Great for transferring them when they are asleep. Was $90 a 3month hire if I remember rightly

Our eldest loved being in the third row with a booster but I was always worried about being rear ended

                  r4ndll is spot on.
Baby behind passenger and get a baby capsule. In and out of the car in a jiffy, not near the road and you can do the transfer of sleeping baby out of the house into the car or vice versa in a flash. Hiring from any number of rental places is the way to go. Make sure you get a capsule thats also compatible with the Pram- heres the tip -ask your Mrs.
                  Cheers,

From a non-safety point of view, I would be putting as much space between both kids as possible! Lol

We have both our kids on opposite sides of the car, used to have the baby seat in the middle when we only had one & it became a bit of a pain.

I have two kids aged 4 and 2, so both forward facing.

Obviously the recommendation is to stick the youngest on the left behind the passenger. Our oldest has been on both the drivers side and middle, mostly in the middle as it still allows us to use the right seat easily for a passenger rather then people trying to squeeze in. Also allows driver to put stuff on the seat behind when hoping in rather than setting off the seat belt alarm for passenger.

However, it will NOT allow you to drop the right hand seat forward as the steel locking bracket for the middle seat stops you from being able to tilt it forward.

I think the best combo would be youngest on right behind driver and oldest in middle to be able to fold down left seat to carry stuff, though I have a roof rack so not to big a deal.
