  • End of warranty checks

My 2012 GX diesel is coming to the end of the factory warranty and I have worked through the issues I know of with Toyota. Can anyone give any suggestions on what I could get checked prior to warranty expiring to try and pick up any future problems?

I was thinking in particular about the fuel system, is there anyone that can do a health check on this? Do I speak to Toyota about it ?

Croz how many km on the odometer? Have you had the injector feed backs tested? If you are up to a run to Brisbane you could catch up with the Roo.

If you are in the RACQ get a end of warranty check.
They found I had one shockie gone when mine was done a few years back plus a full report.

It's a great idea to get an Independant check done.
When I do them, the most common things I find is damage they have done.
        Rounded diff plugs.
        Bolts & clips missing.
        Damaged fuel filter release clips.
But nothing much, they are pretty tough & withstand poor/rough servicing.
You do find the odd silly thing, a couple months ago one had an oil leak, they must have r&r rocker cover & damaged seals or gasket.
        Very unusually messy.

Its got 65000km on the clock. I've had it since new and its always been serviced by Toyota (not that I'd hang too much value on that) so you only know what they tell you.

As for suspension etc, its got TJM gear onboard so that should be fine. I have had the rear passenger window seal replaced as it shrunk and the window was making noise on the freeway and they are about to replace the drivers seat (again) as the lumbar support has failed and is clicking and moving around in there.

Haven't had injector values done, I have the odd job in Brisbane area so could arrange a visit. How do I get in contact with the "Roo"?.

I'm about to hit end of Warranty and will need my 90,000km service early next month, is there anything I should be having checked? And should I be getting Toyota to do a warranty check - I have a fair bit of faith in my local dealer (well, the service manager at least)
If I shouldn't have Toyota do it, does anyone know someone that could up here in North East Vic? I don't really have a trusted local mechanic.

I ended up using Stateroads for a pre-purchase inspection... Which would practically be an independent warranty check. They seem very thorough and provide a good report with plenty of photos (50ish). $320 check and I got some inner guards replaced, fault codes sussed out and two new rear Coopers (from the dealer, obviously not warranty) amongst other smaller things.

The car will also be out of warranty in the next 12 months, so may invest in it again closer to the time.

Well worth the $300 I reckon.

Seat belt tensioner for drivers side is worth checking as they don't retract properly as they get older.

Im going into Toyota tonight (hopefully) to book it in.
On my list at the moment is:
                  • Drive Line Clunk when stopped
                  • Drivers Seat Squeak
                  • AC Fan Noise
                  • Check Seat Belt Tensioners

I'll also ask them to give it a once over to make sure there is nothing else that may catch me out (im sure they're supposed to do that at each service any way)

I would take it to someone independent, it's not in the dealer's interest to find warranty issues for you. I guess if it's a Toyota warranty it's not the dealer's problem in the end but I still think an independent check is best. I took mine to ############# to go over as mine was a dealer extended warranty, had him do a minor service and auto transmission flush while it was there.

Spilsy, I had my tailshaft replaced during the factory warranty period but I had to complain about it at 3 services before they finally agreed to replace it.

Id love to take it to someone independent, but there's no-one I know I can trust in Benalla. I actually have a bit of faith in my Dealer's Service Manager. He's a good bloke and has, in the past, gone the extra mile to help me out.

That's good when you can find someone you can trust. The service manager at my local dealership that looked after me on several issues left to work at another dealership, not so sure about his replacement.

All serviced. They fixed the ac fan... Apparently there were leaves buried in the ac system. They couldn't find the seat squeak, but agreed the lumbar was dying (it feels like a crumpling coke bottle). Have to wait for the service manager to return from leave before we can progress on that.

No sign of the tailshaft clunk...

Don't wish to hijack this thread, but my 2010 with 180,000 on clock has recently developed the 'clunk' after I stop at lights or similar...not very mechanically minded so I'm not sure if it's tailshaft or auto tranny issue??? Is this a common issue with 150's ?? More than happy to be diverted to a thread on the topic if it's in here somewhere???
