  • Active Traction Control

My first post so please bear with me.
I am trying to determine when Active Traction Control (A-TRC) was introduced into the different Prado models. The current E-brochure:
    http://www.toyota.com.au/static/vehi..._ebrochure.pdf
is showing A-TRC as standard across the whole range (page 27 in Off-road capabilities). Does anyone have old versions of the e-brochures? I have a 2013 GX and it seems that it has the standard TRC (ie not Active TRC) in both H4 and L4.
    Thanks.

As far as I can tell there is little or no difference between TRC and A-TRC - according to my testing the car climbed a drop off with ease two wheels in the air in both H4 and L4 and with diff open and locked.

There may be some throttle control in H4 that is absent in L4.

Symo - I agree the TRC works beautifully when 1 or 2 wheels lose traction like going up a hill. But in soft sand I lose power in both H4 and L4. In the 2013 Prado Off-road Manual it states "Active TRC for L4 mode - The function only works in vehicles with Multi-terrain Select when Multi terrain Select is switched on." My understanding of that for the 2013 model A-TRC is only available in models with Multi-terrain ie the Kakadu and therefore in my 2013 GX I don't have A-TRC. This would explain why I lose power in both H4 and L4 in soft sand. I haven't been able to get a full definition of the difference between TRC and A-TRC but from what I can gather TRC will rob power from the system if it detects slippage while A-TRC will not.

i have a 2007 vx with Traction control. I thought Trac control and the A- trac were two differnet systems. So went back to the owners manual today. The manual refers to the system as Active Traction control not traction control. So I was mistaken. This function cannot be switched off on my model of prado. The VSc can be switched off. The VSc automatically activates above 15kmph except when centre d.iff lock is activated then VSC disconnets .
I can attest that My Trac control does operate in low range - Ive got the video from a few weeks ago. Everyone in the group commented on my Trac control ( or should I now call it Active Traction Control, ) getting me thru where the non Trac control hilux couldn't.
I cant comment on your 2010 Gx model re ATrac, but remember that any Multi Terrain Select type of system is ATrac, just that the different settings i,e rock / grass / snow, further "tune" or refine the Atrac to meet a specific surface.
