G'day all, and a happy new year to all.. We just returned from down Corryong way via Elliot Way.. On arriving home, noticed fine dots of oil spray on the stone flaps on the camp trailer, on closer inspection, have found it seemed to be from the transfer box. Can't see where it's coming from, but I do recall when I drove the car home, from new, the rear door had similar on it, and just dismissed it as coming from exhaust, being new I thought it would settle down, which it did.. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar thing happen, this is the first time I have noticed it since new.. It is a 2012 gxl manual diesel, now with about 43000km on the clock.. I've been thinking, maybe with the very hot day, and steep long hills yesterday, it maybe has blown I small amount of oil out a breather or something. Just like to know any bodies thoughts on this.. Got any pics of the transfer case?
Two possible options to check: Could be the seal on the output shaft. Same happened to mine but was very noticeable. Or if it's been over filled it could possibly push some out of the breather[SIZE=2]120 GXL D4D Auto, with a 'List of Wants' greater than the 'List of Needs' greater than the 'List of Haves'

I would have thought if there was oil getting to the front of the camper there would have been significant oil sprayed around the underside of the vehicle and all over the rear suspension and exhaust.
As you don't mention anything like that are you sure it is actually coming from the transfer case and not thrown up from the tyres? What does the front of the rear mudflaps show?

Hi r4ndll, no, never took any photos, I've given it a good clean, and have been checking it, no more oil anywhere, I'm thinking, like you suggested, maybe a bit full, and vented a bit out the breather, it's due for a service in a couple of weeks, so will keep an eye on it.. Was a very hot day, and steep and winding road, maybe just got a bit hot.. Cheers OdogComment

G'day sweet pea, was a few spots on the stone flaps on ct, and yes, I did think just flicked up from the tyres, when I had a look under the car, there was oil along the fuel tank and rear diff, doesn't take much to make a mess, nothing forward of the transfer.. So I'm sure it was coming from the transfer case, has been totally cleaned, and will be keeping an eye on it.. Have been told, if a bit over full, with heat and under load, they can vent a little oil, if conditions are right.. So I'm thinking now, that was the cause.. Makes sense I guess.. Cheers OdogComment

My mate blew a seal on his manual gearbox towing in overdrive with similar results. Maybe check the seals around the drive shaft.[B]Steve[/B]

That makes more sense.
As you say, doesn't take much to make a mess so hopefully it is not serious.
