  • Ive just been converted

    Hi guys,

I have seen the light. Well some might say that. I have just changed my current v6 Prado order to a 2.8l diesel. You see I have been looking at the price of resale of the Diesel vs Petrol for late 2000 model Prado and wow there is a large difference in the price between the two variants. As you can imagine the diesel wins with as much as 15k. My only concern now is will I be able to overtake other vehicles around the 100km/h mark while towing vs petrols ability.

So I guess I have joined the large list of diesel owners and I hope it was the right decision. I guess in 5 or so years I will find out.

    Thanks
    Doug

We had a car trailer on ours with only a 1970's mini and some wood and just not enough power to pass a B double on the highway.

really wish I bought something with more grunt

Like you and many others, I chose the 2.8L over the V6 on the basis of resale value.
Overtaking with a trailer - not good.
Driving through soft sand at low revs - much better.
I don't really understand why there is such a difference in resale value but, like you, I just hope that it continues.

Driving an torque instead of bulk kw is a very different experience and addictive. you will learn to put your foot down a little earlier and not as far and drive through traffic just like can with the 4.0L petrol, only you will be using 20 to 30% less fuel. You will need to learn patience when towing and caught up with traffic moving slower than you though.

                  Sometimes.

Yes, have you ever stopped to smell the roses? Sometimes it's not just the destination but also the journey.

                    Well doug
I like you went from petrol manual 120 Prado. Same reasoning and likewise hope it overtakes ok when I am towing my camper or my 1.5T boat. Plus hope it goes well on those sandy hill climbs off some of the tougher spots like the warren beach in wa south west. Time will tell.

Got to say Resell on my 120 petrol manual was poor. Hope for better in next change over. Also hope the improvement in fuel economy out ways my desire for kW!!

What we need is Toyota is to do some maths like they did with the 200. Add the 2.8 and 4.0 together and divide by 2, add a turbo and subtract the petrol and we are in business.
