Its a late 14 build I think and doesn't have it. As I said I can get the advanced ice module that just plugs into the back of the standard her unit but with hema is $1599. I lost interest in the Prado (building it) as I'm lucky enough to have a lot of toys and moved onto something else but I'm going to the Snowy mountains every second week and its starting to annoy me not having a build in GPS, so I'll have to just do it soon I think

Latest Maps Version for Prado Navigation System

For something different, I've installed a mini iPad (mini2 3G version with the GPS - WiFi iPad doesn't have GPS) below my climate control unit. It actually hangs off the climate control unit with some plastic (but strong) friction hinges I got off amazon for 30 bucks or something. The hinges are attached to a outdoor hard/rubbery ipad case and I can hinge the ipad to my desired angle - range is about 80 degrees from vertical to almost flat. The ipad pops out of its case when needed too if I'm worried about someone breaking in and stealing it.
My Prado is a pre-facelift Kakadu but your newer GXL has a cubby below the climate control so could work as well.
Because I already had Tom Tom and Metroview on my iphone - these installed across without any further charges. I've since bought the Hema maps for the ipad and this works well. It's also a great music player too via USB for my car and via Bluetooth or USB for the newer Prados I believe. Mine is hardwired so it is always charging when the car is on.
The maps for Metroview and Tom Tom are all up to date and does this via wifi in my house (it auto connects when I'm home). Both seem to update the maps every 3 months or so and certainly much faster updating than googlemaps on a phone. I bought the iphone in 2008 i think and have never paid anymore for the maps updates. Metroview is also very cheap @ $15 or so. Metroview has a nicer interface so I would recommend that now. Tom Tom costs a bit more maybe 50 bucks or something.
I also have a bluetooth OBD unit plugged into the car too and a couple of apps on the ipad. The good thing about the ipad is that there are so many possibilities with apps, bluetooth/wifi hardware, music etc etc.
An android tablet (with GPS) would work well here too I guess.
Hope that helps.

Yes I agree, even worse the latest head unit made by Fujitsu Ten will not accept the video interface that can be fitted to previous non navigation models.
Therefore we are not able to run our own navigation units or phones that will run Hema etc on the vehicle screen. I would go for an after market head unit but the factory one has buttons on each side and these would be lost with a conversion, spoiling the look of the dash.

Hi all,
Was just talking to the dealer today and they said there is an update available for 2016 and it costs $255. My current version is 9.12.14.545514. Does anyone have the latest (later than what I have) version - is it truly up-to-date and if not, how old do you feel it is? I'd hate to spend that much only to get something which is still outdated.
Thanks.

Please note that the picture shown in the third post above this one is the software version not the map version.
The map version is in a different "content" menu showing the maps.
As you can see the maps are older than the software. Have a look at post 26 to see where the map information is in the menu.Last edited by JohnLynn; 05-08-2016, 01:00 AM.
