Yes I agree but unfortunately it looks like Australian customers are happy to pay Toyota a ridiculous amount for out of date maps and presumably put up with not being able to connect other devices to the factory screen either.
I waited a few days to see if anyone would perhaps write to customer experience centre to at least let them know that customers are not pleased about this situation but it does seem that people cant even be bothered to contact Toyota.

I'm betting plenty have sent letters to Toyota but they wont tell you that.

If my local dealer has up-to-date information, you'll have what I and others here have - 2015. It'll be interesting to know what you get, so please let us know... I'm going in for my first service tomorrow - I'll try talking to as many people as I can while I'm there to see what I can find out Maps are available, licenses are the problem, from what I gathered.

Just picked up my vehicle last week, July 2016 build (27/07/16) and the maps are still 2014 Q4.

I've just picked up my new Prado. That said it's build date is Sept? 2015, so has been sitting around for a while (I wanted a Silver manual which it is, and got a significant discount as it had been sitting around for a while).

It has the V20 maps fitted.

In the briefing when I picked the car up the guy went to enter my address as "home", and when entering the street number (16) the 6 was grayed out so he had to enter 15 instead of 16. He said he had the same problem in his demo vehicle (a Fortuna). Has anyone else seen this?

Then driving home it directed me to drive through Elizabeth Key, a development that has taken 4 years to build, ie it directed me to drive straight into the water!

I haven't had a chance to play with the unit yet to check the "6" problem, but if it is there I will be going back to Toyota saying WTF I have just paid over $60K for a car and I can't even enter the address for my house that has been there in one of the oldest areas of Perth for over 100 years???

I am hoping with enough harassment they will upgrade it to the latest maps to try and fix it - will post if they do.

When I entered my address to drive my new GXL (also a manual built in Sept 15) home from the dealers, the whole estate constructed 3 years previously didn't exist according to the Toyota navigation. I have been moaning and whinging about this ever since !!
One thing does puzzle me though, you say your system uses version 20, I thought this was the DVD map used on much older vehicles?

Yep, I see this all the time. The maps also don't seem to know about toll roads that have been in place for years. They will sometimes show up correctly but the navigation software is determined to steer you away from them or tries to make you do non-existant turns. Sometimes I run my Google maps on my phone in tandem and just follow it's verbal directions while using the Prado's map screen as my view. I never do this blindly however, I just try to have an idea of my route beforehand so I can ignore directions known to be incorrect.

Was driving the car on the weekend to find the sat nav does not have all the major freeway modifications around the airport either - again a project that has been finished for a year and taken 4 years to do. As a result I missed the turnoff and had to go 5 km out of my way to take the next exit.

Ive contacted the sales rep (manager of fleet sales, so hopefully has a bit more clout) and he has been helpful and is looking into it.

Photos of my nav booklet and uSD card showing the version I received with the vehicle.

I may be wrong but the booklet refers to the previous DVD map versions and is nothing to do with our micro SD card version. Your card has exactly the same numbers on it, AU-2921 86271-OE171, as my original card which had the map from 2013 on a Sept 15 MY vehicle. It would be interesting to see what map version you have by checking your menu.
I made an official complaint to WA consumer protection, they were hardly any help at all, they told me they had contacted Toyota but refused to tell me who in the company their contact was. I later found out it was only the dealer, (Big Rock Toyota) who eventually agreed to give me the "latest" map card. This has arrived at the dealers in the past couple of months, I have not been able to look at it as I am presently in the UK but I expect it to only date from 2014.
I find this particularly irritating as mobile phones have the same navigation software (iGO) with 2016 maps.
Best of luck with your response from Toyota !!! Ask them why the European market can download current maps for free when Toyota charge Australian customers $300 for a two year out of date map.

My card is 2922 with 2014 maps. The dealer said (last week) that they have nothing more recent, but will give me a call on the day they receive an update from Toyota HQ.

The dealer who assisted with my purchase (Prosser Toyota) has just got back to me. I have no gripe with him - he has been really helpful. The response back from the parts department is that I have the latest, that this is a common gripe and that no update will be available for a few months. He has made a diary entry to check again in a few months and get back to me.

He also asked if I had filled out my post purchase survey, and that I feed back the issue to Toyota via that - which I have just done. It will be interesting to see what response (if any) I get.

I will also interrogate my system to see what the software version it reports is.

I think from the MY date of your vehicle it will have 2013 maps as in attached photo of mine. As we know this is not the latest, the "latest" is as posted above by dvlpr "My card is 2922 with 2014 maps."
I sent in my thoughts on the post purchase survey which of course was as expected totally ignored.

Thanks John. They really don't have their stuff in order on this, do they?

I don't expect any response from the survey feedback either, but you live in hope.

I hate to think what it will be like in 10 years when the maps are well out of date, they have moved on to a different technology, and you try to upgrade the database. Hopefully someone will have hacked it by then!

                                2 options might work:
                                (1) We all send in a message on the same day to http://www.toyota.com.au/email-us?enquiryType=Company (the spike on their reporting might get their attention)
                                (2) We all report the issue via the owners 'My Toyota' portal
