Hi all, after a lengthy diagnosis without success from various mechanic and no solution, I decided to replace the steering wheel spiral cable which comes with steering angle sensor. The car functionality was back and made a conclusion there must have been a wire that was broken. On checking the older steering wheel spiral cable, note two wires on the cable was not completing the circuit and that was the problem. So the solution to that problem is to replace the steering wheel spiral cable and all will be well... This may assist somebody if they also face the same challenge.. Goodluck!

Damaged spiral cable should have thrown an error code one would think? Did you get it scanned at all before replacement?

I just checked the electrical diagram. The "Steering Pad Switch Assembly" is a 'passive' mix of switches and resistors - so it is unlikely to throw an error code in some circumstances. Issues with non-responsive buttons seem to show up on older vehicles as a result of many years of use. In both of the above cases, the Prado was a few years old.

They will normally come up with an "Open circuit in Squib A B C D etc" when the ribbon cable fractures. not all code readers can see this however.
