  • Crunching / rapid clicking when DAC 4LO active

Hey guys, had my 150 Series for just over a month. Now I've never had DAC / Trac Control etc so this is all new to me.

Out over the last few times using DAC in 4LO, there's this horrid rapid clicking sound and crunching coming from the front of the driver position.

    Is this normal??

What happens when you guys are using this?

    Cheers.

Just found this on YouTube. Must be normal, this is that exact same sound. Far out, that just sounds awful!

It's your abs being used automatically.

4lo and first gear does a great job. When people in reviews go on about DAC, I tune out.

Used it once just to see how it works.

Scared the living daylights out of me when I first tried it. I think I've used it once since. 1st Low range is a far better option.

Because the driver was American (probably)...need I say More?

Doesn't DAC only activate in 4L 1st gear?

You mean you bought a car with all the wizardry and the sales person didn't explain all the controls and how they work?

In my Grande, DAC will work in Neutral! Highly not recommended, but I tested it a couple of years ago, wanting to see if it actually would kick in when not in gear... I chucked it in Neutral, untrustingly took the foot off the brake and apart from the initial quick downhill runaway because she was in neutral, the DAC did slow the Prado and sort of took over and the brakes did it's thing. Yes it was very ugly and ran too fast as you will see below, but if I had of been in low range and in gear, the descent would have been a lot slower. Still wouldn't use it but...

I activate DAC at the top of the hill in 4L 1st gear. No runaway then.

Makes sense... As mentioned, purely an experiment to see if it would work in neutral..

Just to reiterate, if 4wd was my focus when looking at buying a car, DAC would be the last thing on my list to worry about: the size of the first gear is far more important. This reasoning is what I assume makes the Prado jump into second.

I never would have known this if I didn't do a course.
