I think the best solution is a meeting in the desert between both parties. Helicopters, explosives and maybe chuck a hostage or two in to complete it.

But in seriousness a bank cheque would be the best method as they are backed by the bank. Wonder if there is any third party organisations that can oversee transfers?

If you are buying a car, do a PPSR search of the VIN number. If there is no registrations against the VIN you acquire the vehicle free of any security that may be against the vehicle. For the elderly, there is no more REVs checks, that stopped in 2012........

The checking is explained here: Strewth, how do I NOT get duped.

Good point. Its not necessarily a bad thing but you need to know about it.

When I bought my Prado there was security on the car which showed up on the PPSR. Bank wouldn't give me the car loan until the outstanding finance was cleared. Owner paid off the remaining security, his bank notified my bank, my bank gave me a bank cheque, I got my Prado.

Pretty painless and only took a few days.

Thanks for the great advice to all (and some amusing suggestions). It makes me feel more confident about it, but I will make sure I send the PNG email straight to my trash can

          Kind Regards,
          Barry.
          Cheers,
          Baz.
