  • Trip computer

    Hi,

This has most likely been discussed in the past but I have a new 2.8l Prado VX and have just done my first fill post Toyota pickup. The computer said I had 8km left in the tank but I was only able to add 133l which should mean there was 17l left. Has anyone encountered this and shouldn't this be a little closer to say 5l say 50km buffer or possibly less even considering the trip computer should be more than accurate enough?

    Thanks
    Doug

    Hi Cuda,

I have a vx 2.8 as well. Ive done 2 fills from empty so far and on both occasions can only put in 130 liters or so. Btw how many ks did u get before you filled up?

966km but I suspect I did not have a full tank as the needle was a little below the full line. Now when I filled up its well above the full line.

I read somewhere (can't remember where now) that when the trip computer range is at zero you should have 10 litres left in the tank. That seems to fit with my experience.

so the playdos have two tanks -- each tank you can not run completely dry might be approx last 10 liters are not usable in each tank to prevent air in gestation into the fuel system? its probably a 5 liter safety margin in each tank on top of the required 5 liters left but that's just me talking stockyard confetti

The trip computer is designed (I imagine) to tell you you're out before you are so you can get to a servo. I know that when my 3L 150 says I have about 60km to go, I have about 10-15 litres in the tank.

Not wishing to hijack the thread, but I have noticed that the trip computer on my 2010 150 GXL is reporting around 3 to 4 LHK more than the scangauge does at 2500 rpm in 4th sports. The recorded fuel uplift figures agree with the scangauge.

I thought they both got their data from the same point, namely the ECU. Anyone had the same?
