  • Which Rear End Looks Better?

    Hi All,

Which rear end do people here think looks better?

The one with the Spare on the Boot or with the Spare tyre underneath the Boot?

Not only does it look better with the spare on the rear door, its infinetly more practical...
Ease of access to spare, larger fuel capacity...

It is a shame that Toyota don't allow Australian buyers to choose between the different tailgate options. Personally I would have chosen the split tailgate over the larger fuel capacity.
I have fond memories from my last car of being able to access the rear compartment without having to open my garage door. Also it is much easier to fully load the car through the glass hatch - without having stuff fall out onto the ground.

I have purchased the normal rear spare with large fuel tank and am happy with that (no other options anyway). I think it is a shame that Toyota don't provide many options (unlike the German makes). I think that many buyers might choose specific options on the more basic models e.g. KDSS on a GXL, autonomous braking. Having the tailgate options would also be useful (I think US, UK, NZ all have the smaller tank and an Altitude style tailgate).
The main item I would have liked to drop on the GXL was the 3rd row seating to provide a bigger boot (rather than paying for a 3rd row and then perhaps paying again to have it removed)

You can have the other tail gate...if you want the current altitude model.

Except that there is no current Altitude model.

If it actually existed for the Prado. Prado's are single barn doors only, whether with or without the spare hanging off the door.

Perhaps split tailgate is the wrong description. They do have a glass opening hatch however:

Ahh, sorry, I see what you mean. I was thinking about the tailgate on the Landcruisers.

The GX 200 comes with barn doors.

I would take the extra fuel capacity over the Altitude tailgate any day and as someone who doesn't drink coffee, thank you Mr Hobbs & MLC & Clipsal & ......
