Hi everyone,
Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section as this is my first post.
I am Rob, my wife is Kim and our youngest that will be camping with us is Will, 14 YO. We live in Sunbury Victoria.
I am soon to purchase a new Prado 2.8 GXL and this will be my first 4WD and first Toyota.
I do a lot of camping and want to be able to get further off the track and am also buying a new camper and doing away with the trusty old canvas tents. We are scheduled to pick up our camper in September so will need the Prado then.
I am not sure about dual batteries and am looking for advice.
We currently run a couple of ""Thumper 75 ah batteries for our tent camping and like their portability. Am thinking about placing one of these in the rear, charging off the alternator to run the engel in the back of the car. Will also need an Anderson plug for charging the batteries in the camper. I am using a "Thumper" 50A charger unit as I have one spare. Any thoughts on this set up or are there any better alternatives? How about fitting permanent battery under the bonnet or else where and running 12 volt socket to the rear for the fridge?
I plan on having an auto electrician do the work and they can fit a brake controller and UHF at the same time.
As this will be our first 4WD, we are planning on doing a driver training course and will be looking for local options.
Also, Are there any options for tyres when buying new as I want something that will handle all conditions and terrain. We will not be doing anything extreme but do want to be able to go on the beach, CSR, Gibb River Road, Tanami track, etc and would like tyres capable.
A compressor and max trax are on the list as well.
Sorry about the long email but I have so much to learn.
regards
Rob
