My 2.8 Auto GXL is still fairly new but (on the digital readout) seems to want to lock onto 10.0 around Adelaide suburbs but drops to 8/9 for steady runs on country roads. I use BP Ultimate and tyres at 35PSI of that helps. I have a tow bar but standard suspension no bull bar.

I am bit worried about the weight of steel bull bar. For example, i can drive up one certain uphill road with 4th gear and suddenly have to go to 3rd gear the (the sound of down shift)after bull bar fitted, which is quite annoying..... So i just reckon to what extent the added weight can affect the driving?Originally posted by Jimbo! View PostIM at 9000k with a GXL. IM getting 9.6 around town. Creeps to mid 10s if in bumper to bumper. Getting high 7s on country drives and 15.5 when towing my 2ton caravan.
I have a steel arb bar and roof rack with bike carriers.

Just had my 2016 GXL auto into the dealer. 3700km on the clock with 70% country roads and cannot get it under an average of 10?? This is my third Diesel car in 8 years (VW Touareg, Ford Ranger) and I've been able to get both of them within 5% of the advertised average usage without any trouble. When Toyota claims an average of 8L per 100km in their specs that means on my car it's economy is out by 25%. They drove the car around the block with the scan tool plugged in, it gave them a usage of 5L per 100km and they basically said (nicely of course) to suck it up and get on with it. I asked them to reboot the computer system to see it would reset the car and they wouldn't do it claiming that it would wipe out the 'memory' of the transmission system?? The engine/fuel system is controlled by the computer - it will be interesting to see if there's a firmware upgrade in the future and if it makes a difference. Sort of gets my goat that the 40,000km I do year will now take an extra 800L of fuel that was expected...............end rant.

Maybe ask to have a loan car for a week to show a diff in fuel usage with a different vehicle
Good luck

I would not be happy with some of the figures you guys are getting especially cruising on the highways. I've just updated from my 120 to 150 and I bought the petrol V6 MY14 auto GXL. I did just over 1000k round trip on the weekend. Started with full tank, did 50k running around home before I left, school, day care etc. first stop was seven hills to drop the two kids at inlaws, pennant hills Rd a friggin nightmare, then hit M1 to possum brush which is between Forster and Taree, Friday night. Sat morn up to port Maquarie, back to possum brush, there 1/2 hour then across to Forster for dinner, back to possum brush, left Sunday morning and diverted to the Entrance (central coast) had a look around there lunch etc then to seven hills to pick up kids, then home here at Penrith. Possum brush was on a dirt Rd leading off the pacific highway which is approx only 10k on dirt Rd nothing over 60k speed, so did that about 6 times. No mods as of yet except factory towbar. 2 adults, fridge luggage etc in the back. Averaged 10.9L per 100 and just filled it up tonight to confirm the read out on dash and was spot on. I no this will change with A/T tyres, lift etc, but still extremely happy with that and I wasn't babying it. I was 115 most of the way on the freeway.Face lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

2.8l diesel. Reset instant fuel and drove for 5 mins of Kwinana Fwy south of Perth and got this. 9000km on clock at the time. I have filled again and used 11l/100km. This was based on 400km of towing 2T using 16l/100km with headwind and 12.6l/100km when calm and travelling at 92km/h (Sweet spot with 5th gear torque converter locked). Would expect low 10's or high 9's without the towing. 10500 on the clock.
I'm thinking the towing does the diesel engine some good. Puts a nice load on it and wears it in nicely.2018 150 Series Crystal Pearl Prado VX 2.8l. 2 inch King springs and Bilstein shocks, Airtek TJM snorkel.
