Mine had a drone around 1800 rpm around town. The fix appears to be to firmly wedge the intake pipe through the inner mudguard with high density rubber. Also check all of those bits of plastic around the mudguard- they tend to be quite moveable and rattelly.

my 2016 GXL has a drone from 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm, especially at 1800 rpm. really annoying when cruise at 110km/h. It seems better on hot day, but the winter is coming, it starts rattle badly, like Boeing 777 starts its big GE90 engine. A couple of days before, I took a ride in a top spec discovery, and it was slightly more refined overall, but between 1500-2000, much more refined. So I was wondering if the drone sound is design issue or the VX or Kakadu is quieter?

I found it is much quieter after I give it a thorough wash, even the drone sound is much smaller.....

Slightly off topic - but I did read that the Prado 2.8 has engine balancer shafts that are not fitted on the HiLux or Fortuner.
