Hi guys, just did the 40,000km service on my 2014 150 gxl diesel. Service was conducted as per the handbooks instructions. Engine oil and filter, fuel transfer filter, diff oils and brake fluid. Also at the same time I replaced factory under bonnet filter and also installed fuel manager 30micron pre filter kit from diesel care. Engine oil is 15w40 castrol magnatec diesel which is what I always put in it, genuine Toyota brake fluid went in as I have read what happens with other brands of brake fluid.
Rang local repco store to see what oil is recommended for the diffs, they told me 75w85 GL5 as per the handbook. They had it in Penrite and told me it was $60 for a 2.5 litre bottle! To which I said no thank you. So in search of a cheaper option I came across castrol epx axle 80w90 for $40 for 4 litre bottle. So in that went instead. Now my drama is my fuel Economy average was at 11.4 per hundred kms, but since completing the service and installing the fuel manager and the Mrs taking it for a 15km return run to the shops and back the economy average is now at 14.7 per hundred kms! What the hec!
So my Question is would the fuel manager be causing and increase in fuel consumption ( I don't see how it would). I definitely don't have any fuel leaks anywhere I have checked and checked after installing the fuel manager or could it be the thicker diff oil? should I drain it out and put the specified oil in? Wouldn't have thought that a little thicker oil would worry it that much. Any answers or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Onato
