  • Question: fitting bullbar w/o suspension upgrade

    Hi,

i have a 2010 Prado Kakadu and am planning to fit a bullbar, i am looking at ARB Deluxe or Sahara.

My question is, Do i need to upgrade the suspension? I am concerned that lifting/upgrading suspension in the kakadu almost always results in getting the dreaded KDSS lean and i don't know anyone in Sydney that confidently do suspension lift for Kakadu.

What will be the effect if i don;t upgrade the suspension and fitted the bullbar?

your thoughts will be much appreciated. Thank you

You will need to get KDSS specific springs. They come in standard height or raised.
Refer to the Suspension Database http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...nsion-Database

Hi AMTS, thanks for your response....will using the KDSS specific spring/coil avoid the KDSS lean? or still need to tweak it?

Looks like only Dobinson and King make KDSS coils....i know they are different height, is this for the front only?

What would be the best bet kit for Prado 150 with KDSS ?

      cheers

The KDSS shutter valves needs to be opened before doing any work, and then closed off after the wheels are back on level ground.
Only kings and Dobinsons do KDSS coils but most front struts have adjustment on the bottom coil seat to create the same effect as uneven length coils.

What do you want to do? are you after a lift?

Hi AMTS, thanks..initially the intention is to upgrade the suspension to accomodate the extra weight of the bullbar but i was thinking that since i am upgrading the suspension, might as well get a lift maybe 40 mm or 45mm or you reckon i should go for 2 inches ? cheers

40mm would be best for the Kakadu to make sure you don't overstretch the rear airbag suspension

Would strut spacers be a stop-gap alternative until you upgraded the entire suspension? At least then the slight sag caused by the weight of the bullbar would be countered...???

                  Hi Stanmiko,

That's a good question mate, was about to ask whether it would be better to fit the bullbar first then do the suspension after....

                  cheers

You won't need the rear coils.

Bear in mind that apparently a 20mm strut spacer will give actual lift of about 30mm, so should negate any or all sag due to the steel bullbar. And allow you to maintain original springs/struts.

Yes fit bullbar first. Suspension should be done last normally.

More like 38mm lift. 6mm strut spacer is safe. Anything thicker than that and you risk the strut bottoming out before the bumpstops prevents it.

Yes correct. But there are no part numbers listed...
