  • Steel wheels too heavy for rear door?

    Hello All,

I recently upgraded my tyres to 265/70r17 muddies on 17x8 steel rims and noticed they are a lot heavier than the stock rims and tyres.

I was always going to put a rear bar on, but my question is will the rear door be able to take the heavier spare without sagging/damaging a hinge/bearing and i can get away with just a rear bar? Or am i better off going all out and getting a wheel carrier rear bar and not risking the rear door?

    Thanks very much.

I would be more concerned about your username!

I had factory steel wheels on the back of my 120 on an extended bracket for 6 years and no issues.

Ditto. Have run muddies on steel rims for about 18 months with no issues. They're a factory option anyway. Certainly notice the difference lifting the second spare up onto the roof rack.
