I would like to get some recommendations as to the best tyre monitoring system that can deal with rough roads without falling apart. (This happen to a friend but he is inclined to hammer his Prado at times). Any unbiased advice or recommendations would be really welcome.

Tyre monitoring Systems - which would you recommend

Depends on how much you want to spend really. Purchased one of ebay a while back for OZ lap.Not sure but think it was this one same style but maybe a different brand. Didnt really expect much but it is all still working well today after 51000ks around and through OZ. Was slightly concerned about weight on the valve stem but never had a problem. Worth the dollars and peace of mind knowing you get an alarm if something is going wrong (you can set for temp and pressure).

I've got the Fobotire system. Bit different to the traditional systems in the way it uses Bluetooth transmission meaning it has a basic in car unit, with no display, but also works on a smart phone - yep has an app. The best feature it allows up to 20 sensors (comes with 4) which means it's great for easily reading the spare tyre, campers, caravans, trailers etc etc. I've bought three extra sensors, one for my spare and two for my camper/trailer. Button cell batteries last around 6 months. I keep spares in the glovebox.

I've got the 4 sensor Tyredog and had no issues along a recent trip along the Oodnadatta and Binns tracks - a few 5-6 hours days on that trip too. The receiver sticks to the fascia by the drivers left knee very well too.[SIZE=2]120 GXL D4D Auto, with a 'List of Wants' greater than the 'List of Needs' greater than the 'List of Haves'

I hadn't heard of Safe T Tyre but it looks like a system I bought under another name. The valve units were quite poor quality compared to Tyredogs. A couple of mine started leaking through the body. I threw it all away.
Before I head west next year I will get a 6 wheel tyredog system.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I had the optional Toyota TPMS system fitted when buying the car. Works well.
The sensors mount in the wheel so the temperature reading is a bit more relevant than the valve cap types.
The display unit is a bit rough though, it is mounted behind the gear shift lever. A bit hard to read while driving.
On the Van I have a 4 sensor Tyre Dog, only use two of the sensors, the other two are spares, works reasonably well.
But I do worry about the flexing of the valve stems on the van. The paint on the wheel rims bears witness to the fact that they do bend when driving. Still they have been to the west several times via Outback roads (inc Gibb, Tanami, Oodnadatta, Finke and others) without breaking the stems.
Cheers

Does anyone have a system with at least 8 sensors? Looking for a set for the Prado as well as tandem axle van. The ones i have seen generally use the same frequency so i am thinking i cant just double up and use 2systems in parallel.

Tyredog does. You need a repeater though.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Sensatyre (http://www.sensatyre.com/ ) can do 10 I think. Works well for us - it has an antenna mounted at the back of the car which picks up the 4 car wheels, spare & camper trailer
