  • 150 Injector Seals

Hi, im looking at buying a KDJ150 and have a max budget of $45k.

This amount should get me something around MY2012-2014 with under 100k kms, be it GX or GXL...

I'm wondering about injector seals, is there likely to be any issue with these? Was there any recall in Australia as with other countries, or was the problem fixed in later models? There are a few GX's in my price range with 50-60k kms, so would it be better to go with lower K's and get the seals done instead of paying more for a GXL with higher K's and a higher chance of problems due to injector seals?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Get a petrol and don't worry about them.
1997 petrol auto, 430 000km. Still going strong.
2004 petrol auto, 233 000km. Cracked dash and no help from Toyota!

There is no recall or issues with genuine seals after 01/2008, long ago.

If someone has used aftermarket brass washers, from all the ones i have seen & also other workshops,
      they usually leak pretty quick.

You can see the brass does not squash, it's just too hard.
      Just over 50% contact.

Or some really poor workmanship, dirty ports & incorrect torque on clamps can be the reason genuine washers leak, but they are very tolerant to rough job.

Thanks. So being as the 150's began in 2009, does this mean that the problem is limited to 120's and 90's only, provided that the 150 in question is running it's original injectors and seals?

Are there any other problems to look out for in a 150 in the price range of $45k? Is a certain year's engine any more reliable than another for any reason?

        Cheers

Find and independent mech who has the skills to do the injector test after the car has sat overnight without running.

Or get hold of the techstream software and cable and do it yourself. Available on ebay. Well known seller is obdfamily.

150 has the same issues with injectors as the 120. The problems are not just the washers, the injectors have a lifespan. Injectors have improved over time but they are still a wearing part and they need to be checked and replaced when they head out of spec.

Ok, thanks. Any idea what the lifespan of the injectors is?

              Pretty much Correct.

I think 120 pistons are more robust.

On part DLC 120 or 150 about 120k is usually safe, subject to diagnostics as described by photoprado.
Full DLC genuine Injectors seem to be lasting much longer.
