Another new head unit

Hi All. Just added a Dasaita Unit. I have a 2016 GX; so no GPS & only reversing camera.

• Got 4GB/32GB, Android 8, 1240X600 & 10.2” screen, model HA2127-V840-8
• Ordered 11/11 (Singles Day with extra discount) via AliExpress at US$402 (including GST these days) or about AUD$557. Noticed a few extra dollars discount for upcoming Black Friday.
• Received on 16 Nov – that is quick!
• Micro SD slot: located inside on the side; will be difficult quickly swapping cards.
• Micro SD card included: 8GB card with iGo; maps of SE Asia, including Australia.
• I prefer Map Factor Navigator with free Open Street maps. This provides good offline maps that are updated regularly. Also shows lots of walking tracks – useful on the phone, not the car, of course!!

Step 1: Remove existing head unit; this quite easy and there is plenty of info on how to do this.
Step 2: Remove vents from existing unit and fit to Dasaita unit. This is fiddly as you need coordinate unclipping 6 clips; once you manage to unclip it fits easily to the Dasaita unit.
Step 3: Connect the Dasaita wiring to the Prado wiring. This is quite straight forward as the harnesses are all matched. The reverse camera needs two RCA connectors joined and it worked; looks a little grainy on the bigger screen. I had a couple of Prado connectors left over.
Also swapped the hazard switch and put on supplied switch cover. As noted by others, the wiring is tight with the move to the passenger side; so I added some additional wire - there are only 4 wires - and connectors.
Step 4: Turn on - and it worked - yippee! Then setup and tested radio, Bluetooth, wifi, GPS, set the CanBus, added Google account and updated & installed some apps from Google Play. All working well so far.
Step 5: Work out where to put GPS antenna, Microphone and USB leads. Note, I only added the dual USB lead.
Put the GPS antenna at back of the unit cover near the windscreen and the microphone on the driver’s side. As the wires came up I cut small grooves for the wires as there is no gap otherwise. Finally, I fed the 2 USB cables to inside the glovebox.

Impressions:

• Wow! The improved screen size is great!
• Only early days but the sound is good!
• The fit and connection is straight forward. Looks like it is standard!
• The flexibility of an unrestricted system is great. Just standard Android and use the functions or apps you want or need.
• Having wifi is great and makes updating at home easy.
• Removal of the CD player is not a big issue. It is replaced with workable USB ports; I found the supplied Toyota USB port was limited and so rarely used; and that AUX port next to useless.
• It illustrates the poor nature of the Toyota system. I pity those with the Toyota GPS and those old & limited maps.

To do:

• Load and setup Torque Pro.
• Load other apps as needed. Can now load and read documents now.
• Maybe set the USB leads into that card thingy in the glove box.
• Will decide later if I load up the Malaysk ROM.

Great write up.

1. I just installed an android headunit in my 2015 GXL Prado.
2. I used this wiring harness/canbus adapter

Everything works, except for the factory reverse camera.

I'm thinking it is related to the wiring harness, since I tried with a Aepro CHTO15C and the reverse camera feed worked, but with the other wiring harness adapter it doesn't.

The Aepro harness didn't seem to have the right canbus adapter, so that's why I had returned it.

Any ideas?

There should be a 10 pin connector with a yellow RCA female supplied. You need to connect the correct yellow RCA male output from the main loom they supplied to this.
